A system, apparatus and corresponding method by which to synchronize to a time reference a main module of a device&#x2014;a main module such as global positioning system (GPS) receiver&#x2014;using a cellular communication signal received by a cellular module also included in the device. To synchronize the main module to the reference time, the invention provides a method including the steps of: having the cellular module respond to the cellular communication signal by providing to a clock module of the main module a trigger pulse derived from the data component of the cellular communication signal, and also by providing to the main module information relating the trigger pulse to a universal time. The main module is then able to resolve a value for time based on the information relating the trigger pulse to a universal time and the trigger pulse.

Method, apparatus and system for GPS time synchronization using cellular signal bursts

Supporting a satellite based positioning

The invention relates to a network element comprising a controlling element for forming assistance data relating to two or more signals transmitted by a reference station of at least one navigation system; and a transmitter for transmitting the assistance data via a communications network to a device. The device comprises a positioning receiver for performing positioning on the basis of two or more signals transmitted by a reference station of the at least one satellite navigation system; a receiver for receiving the assistance data from the network element; and an examining element configured to examine the received assistance data to find out information relating to the status of the two or more signals. The information comprises indication on the reference station the signal relates to, and the status indicates the usability of the signal.

Method and apparatus for navigation systems

The invention relates to a navigation systems and elements. A network element (M) includes a receiver (M.) for forming assistance data relating to at least one navigation system. The network element (M) inserts indication of the navigation system and a selected mode into the assistance data and constructs the assistance data according to the selected mode. The network element (M) has a transmitting element (M.) for transmitting the assistance data via a communications network (P) to a device (R). The device (R) includes a positioning receiver (R.) for performing positioning on the basis of one or more signals of the at least one satellite navigation system; a receiver (R.) for receiving the assistance data from the network element (M); and an examining element (R.) adapted to examine the received assistance data. The assistance data is adapted to be used by the positioning receiver for performing positioning of the device (R).

Methods and apparatuses for assisted navigation systems

For supporting a relative positioning, information on barometric pressure at a first device and information on barometric pressure at a second device is converted into a difference in altitude between the first device and the second device. The difference in altitude between the first device and the second device is then used in determining a position of the first device relative to the second device.

Relative positioning

A code phase signalling module arranged to provide code phase signalling to assist in signal acquisition of direct sequence spread spectrum signalling received by a receiver module from a transmitter module. The code phase signalling is arranged to be used by the receiver module to synchronise the phase of a synchronisation code provided from within the receiver module with the phase of a modulation code of the direct spread spectrum sequence signalling received by the receiver module. The synchronisation code sequence corresponds to the modulation code sequence. The code phase signaling module is arranged to provide code phase time signaling representing the offset time of the synchronisation code from a reference time. The reference time is associated with the time of transmission of a particular reference portion of the modulation code of the direct spread spectrum signaling.

Spread spectrum transmission systems

The invention relates to navigation systems and elements. A network element (M) includes a controlling element (M.1) for forming assistance data relating to one or more reference stations (S1, S2) of at least one navigation system; and a transmitter (M.3.1) for transmitting the assistance data via a communications network (P) to a device (R). The device (R) includes a positioning receiver (R.3) for performing positioning on the basis of one or more signals transmitted by reference stations (S1, S2) of the at least one satellite navigation system; a receiver (R.2.2) for receiving the assistance data relating to at least one navigation system from the network element (M); and an examining element (R.1.1) adapted to examine the received assistance data to find out information relating to the status of the one or more signals of the reference stations (S1, S2) including indication on the reference station (S1, S2) the signal relates to, and the status indicating the usability of the signal. Therefore, the device (R) is adapted not to use in the positioning such a signal which is indicated not to be usable.

A code phase signalling module arranged to provide code phase signalling to assist in signal acquisition of direct sequence spread spectrum signalling received by a receiver module from a transmitter module. The code phase signalling is arranged to be used by the receiver module to synchronise the phase of a synchronisation code provided from within the receiver module with the phase of a modulation code of the direct spread spectrum sequence signalling received by the receiver module. A method for positioning a wireless communication device includes storing position data relating to one or a plurality of reference areas to at least one database. It is examined which of said reference areas is located in the vicinity of the wireless communication device, and at least position data about the reference area located in the vicinity of the wireless communication device is retrieved for the wireless communication device. In order to perform the positioning, the method further includes selecting the reference area located in the vicinity of the wireless communication device as the default position of the wireless communication device.

Method for positioning, a positioning system, and an electronic device

A satellite positioning device comprising: a timing synchronisation circuit arranged to provide timing data for location estimation. The circuit being arranged to, in a first mode, provide the timing data in dependence on at least one received satellite positioning signal without the assistance of a location estimate and, in a second mode, provide the timing data in dependence on at least one received satellite positioning signal with the assistance of a location estimate, the timing synchronisation circuit being arranged to switch between the first and second modes of operation in dependence on whether the timing synchronisation circuit is providing the timing data.

The methods and apparatus are configured to detect the presence of the compatible communication device using a low power radio frequency technology; to determine the identity of the detected compatible communication device; and, in response to detection of the presence of the compatible communication device, to redirect incoming calls intended for the detected compatible communication device having the determined identity to the communication device, wherein the controller sends control signals to the compatible communication device, such that the compatible communication device can control the redirection of the incoming calls at the network.

A method for positioning a wireless communication device where position data of one or a plurality of reference points is stored into at least one data base, and which of the reference points is located in the vicinity of the wireless communication device is determined. The method also includes transmitting at least position data of the reference point located in the vicinity of the wireless communication device to the wireless communication device and selecting the reference point located in the vicinity of the wireless communication device as the default location of the wireless communication device.

The present invention relates to a method in positioning, to determine assistance information of a satellite positioning system. The assistance information is transmitted in a communication system () with at least one server (). The assistance information is transmitted from the communication system () to the electronic device (). At least one server () of the communication system is used for determining the assistance information. The determined assistance information is converted to meta data format, and the assistance information converted to meta data format is transmitted to the electronic device (). In the electronic device (), said assistance information is used for positioning, when necessary. The invention also relates to a system and an electronic device, in which the method is applied.
