In a silver halide emulsion, a sum of projected areas of tabular silver halide grains, in which an outer shell region which is 40% in volume from a grain surface contains 5 mol % to 20 mol % of iodide ions with respect to a silver halide in the outer shell region, and which have a projected area diameter of 0.08 &mgr;m to 0.5 &mgr;m and an aspect ratio of 2 to 30, accounts for 80% or more of the total projected area of all grains.

There is disclosed a light-sensitive silver halide photographic emulsion, which comprises light-sensitive silver halide grains mainly composed of (100) planes and (111) planes, at least one compound that is adsorbed selectively on the (100) planes of the silver halide grains, and at least one spectrally sensitizing dye. There is also disclosed a light-sensitive material using the emulsion. The emulsion is high in sensitivity and excellent in graininess.

A silver halide photographic emulsion comprise silver chlorobromide or silver iodobromochloride grains, each grain having a silver chloride region in an amount of 0.3 to 50 mol % based on the total silver amount of the grain, and each grain containing at least one ion selected from the group consisting of ions of Ga, In and Group 8, Group 9 and Group 10 metals. A silver halide photographic light-sensitive material of this invention is a silver halide photographic light-sensitive material having at least one silver halide emulsion layer on a support, wherein at least one of the silver halide emulsion layers contain at least one compound represented by formula (I): formula (I) ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, and R.sub.3 each represent an aliphatic group, an aromatic group, a heterocyclic group, OR.sub.4, NR.sub.5 (R.sub.6), SR.sub.7, OSiR.sub.8 (R.sub.9)(R.sub.10), TeR.sub.11, X, or a hydrogen atom, R.sub.4, R.sub.7, and R.sub.11 each represent an aliphatic group, an aromatic group, a heterocyclic group, a hydrogen atom, or a cation, R.sub.5 and R.sub.6 each represent an aliphatic group, an aromatic group, a heterocyclic group, or a hydrogen atom, R.sub.8, R.sub.9, and R.sub.10 each represent an aliphatic group, and X represents a halogen atom.
