A projection type display includes an illumination optical system provided with a light source including, for respective predetermined colors, LED arrays each formed of six LEDs, a light source controller that controls the LED arrays to turn on, an integration device, and a DMD, wherein the light source controller controls the LED arrays to turn on such that the shapes of light source images, which are formed on an entrance surface of the integration device by five LEDs of the respective LED arrays, coincide with each other.

Self-aligning mechanisms hold a condenser housing. The condenser housing is moved toward an integrator while tapered surfaces of the condenser housing of an LED light source unit are inserted along condenser lens guides of a projection unit. LED light source unit datum surfaces and datum surfaces of the projection unit abut against each other, and the tapered surfaces of the LED light source unit can no longer move toward the integrator along the condenser lens guides of the projection unit. In this state, the LED light source unit and the projection unit are coupled to each other.

Projection display apparatus

A package structure prevents an optical sheet from being brought into contact with a display panel and making scratches on the display panel due to motion caused during transport of a display device, thereby minimizing cost increase. A package structure for a thin display device is the structure for storing the thin display device in a package case. The thin display device includes at least one optical sheet situated in approximately parallel with its display surface, and the package case includes a storage member for holding a thin display device with the optical sheet having a surface inclined relative to a vertical direction.

Package structure for display device

A light source device () includes a lamp unit () and a lamp cartridge () in which the lamp unit () is housed. The lamp unit () includes a discharge lamp (), a reflection mirror () and a transparent plate (). The reflection mirror () has ventilation openings (). The lamp cartridge () has ventilation openings (and). Fragment-passage prevention members (and) are provided on the ventilation openings (and). The fragment-passage prevention members () allow the passage of the air but prevent the passage of the fragments of the discharge lamp (). With such an arrangement, it is possible to prevent the fragments from being scattered out of the lamp cartridge (), even when the breakage of the discharge lamp () occurs.

Light source device and projection-type image display device

A light source device () includes a discharge lamp (), a reflection mirror (), a transparent plate () and a case (). The reflection mirror () has inlet openings () and outlet openings () formed in the vicinity of the front end of the reflection mirror (). The case () has outlet openings () disposed on the front side of the reflection mirror (), and an inlet opening () disposed on the rear side of the reflection mirror (). The inlet opening () of the case () allows an air to flow into the case () and to flow along a back surface () of the reflection mirror (). The inlet openings () of the reflection mirror () allow the air to flow into the interior of the reflection mirror (). The outlet openings () of the reflection mirror () and the outlet openings () of the case () allow the air to be exhausted out of the case ().
