Provided is a switching liquid crystal panel and a display device that have novel structures that are capable of preventing luminous regions from appearing in the light transmitting parts, in the vicinities of boundaries thereof with the light shielding parts. The switching liquid crystal panel includes a pair of substrates () having a twisted nematic type liquid crystal layer () interposed therebetween, and a plurality of light shield forming electrodes () that are formed on at least one of the pair of the substrates () and that form light shielding parts () of a parallax barrier () in cooperation with a counter electrode () when a voltage is applied, the counter electrode () being is opposed to the light shield forming electrodes () with the liquid crystal layer () interposed therebetween. A rubbing direction for an alignment film () provided on the substrate () side on which the light shield forming electrodes () are formed is at an angle of 45&#xb0; or less to a lengthwise direction of the light shield forming electrodes ().

Switching liquid crystal panel and display device

An arrangement with a shared polarizer disposed between two panels capable of displaying a 3D image using parallax barrier techniques is provided, where the quality of a displayed 3D image is prevented from decreasing due to the left-right imbalance in contrast ratio. The arrangement includes: a main panel; a switch panel for displaying a slit image serving as a parallax barrier; a polarizer located closer to the viewed side of the main panel; a polarizer located between the main panel and the switch panel; and a polarizer located closer to the side of the switch panel opposite the side closer to the main panel. The direction of rubbing for one of the alignment films of the switch panel is at an angle relative to the absorption axis of one of the polarizers such that a contrast ratio within a view range of the left and right eyes is equal to or higher than a reference value, the contrast ratio being measured on a visual line corresponding to the transmission axis of one of the polarizers.

Display device

A color liquid crystal display panel includes: a first substrate provided on a light source side; a second substrate provided on a viewer side so as to oppose the first substrate; a liquid crystal layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate; a color filter layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate; a first transflective film provided closer to the light source than the liquid crystal layer and the color filter layer for reflecting ambient light coming from the viewer side while transmitting therethrough light-source light coming from the light source side; and a second transflective film provided closer to the viewer than the color filter layer for reflecting the ambient light while transmitting therethrough the light-source light.
