A coated film manufacturing method and a coating machine are provided which can prevent deformation of a die coater due to evaporation of a coating liquid and prevent surface deficiency occurring when starting the coating. A coating machine is prepared which includes a die coater having a manifold, a slot communicating with the manifold, and a lip face formed at an end of the slot, a heat-insulating plate being disposed in a region below the lip face of the die coater and having a tapered top end portion, and a depressurizing chamber being disposed upstream in a web conveying direction from the die coater. The coating machine is made to stand by at a position for forming a clearance greater than a predetermined clearance between the coating machine and the web at the time of coating while flowing the coating liquid from the die coater.

Coated film manufacturing method and coating machine

The coating apparatus has an air shielding device to prevent a curtain of coating liquids, which free-falls from a coating head, from being disturbed by an air carried along by a traveling web. The coating apparatus also has a device to move the air shielding device. Before and at the start of coating, the air shielding device is kept far from an impingement position where the free-falling curtain impinges onto the web. Just after the start of coating, the air shielding device is moved close to the impingement position. This prevents the air shielding device from being contaminated with splashes of the coating liquids, and the like.

Coating method and apparatus including an air shielding device

In a coating method using a coating head having a coating solution supplying inlet and a slot opening, the coating solution is caused to flow from the inlet to the slot opening in such a manner that the flow width increases gradually while the flow thickness decreases gradually. An apparatus according to the invention has a coating head in which a flow path is formed between an inlet and a slot opening, such that the flow width gradually increases while the flow thickness gradually decreases.

Coating method and apparatus

A method for producing gradient gel medium membrane for electrophoresis in which a monomer solution having a continuous concentration gradient and a polymerizing reaction initiator solution are supplied to a coating head as a gel forming solution for electrophoresis while mixing the monomer solution and the polymerizing reaction initiator solution with each other so as to coat a moving web with the gel forming solution. The coating liquid is supplied onto a moving web through the coating head in such a manner so that the flow of the coating liquid extends continuously in the direction of width and is continuously reduced in the direction of thickness along the coating head from its supply inlet to its slot opening.

Method of producing gradient gel medium membrane for electrophoresis

A method for producing gradient gel medium membrane for electrophoresis for determining the base sequence of DNA or DNA partially decomposed material providing an improved productivity. High and low concentration monomer solutions are mixed with a predetermined quantity of polymerizing reaction initiator solution by a static mixer to prepare a gel forming solution for coating on a continuously moving web. The flow-rate ratio of the high and low concentration monomer solutions is gradually changed so as to vary the concentration of the monomer in the gel forming solution alternatively from low to high and from high to low along the web.

A bar coating process for coating a coating liquid on a continuously travelling web which comprises the steps of supplying a coating liquid so as to form a liquid reservoir immediately before a position of contact between a bar and the web, and coating the coating liquids on the web using the bar, wherein the bar is axially positioned perpendicularly to the travelling direction of the web, is supported on a supporting member and is rotated in the same direction as that of the web while coming into contact with the web. The diameter of the bar being 6 to 25 mm.
