A yarn supply system for a loom includes a yarn supply member changing apparatus for replacing a using yarn supply member with a new one when the weft yarn of the used yarn supply member has been used up or broken. The new yarn supply member is supplied to the yarn supply member changing apparatus at a mounting position from a self-propelled carriage. The new yarn supply member is carried to a yarn supply position by a carrying member movably mounted on the yarn supply member changing apparatus. A weft yarn wound on a bobbin forming part of the yarn supply member has a free tip end section which has been inserted into the central hole of the bobbin. The weft yarn tip end section of the yarn supply member at the yarn supply position of the yarn supply member changing position is drawn out of the bobbin and threaded into a weft winding arm forming part of a weft measuring and storing device under the influence of air stream. Thus, the weft yarn is supplied through the measuring and storing device to a weft inserting nozzle which projects the weft yarn into a warp yarn shed so as to accomplish a weft picking.

Weft supply changing and threading apparatus

A weft inserting nozzle including a weft inserting first hole through which a weft yarn is passed, an annular air jet opening defined around the exit of the first hole, and a weft inserting second hole extending coaxially and downstream from the annular air jet opening is disclosed. The second hole consists of an upstream positioned first section and a downstream positioned second section each having a uniform diameter throughout the length thereof, the diameter of the second section being greater than that of the first section which is equal to the outer diameter of the annular air jet opening.

A weft picking device of an air jet loom, comprises a plurality of air guide members in alignment with the direction of weft picking, each air guide member being spaced predetermined distances from adjacent air guide members to define respective spaces therebetween, the air guide members being respectively formed with air guide openings to define a weft guide channel to which a weft yarn from a weft inserting nozzle is inserted, at least one auxiliary nozzle being disposed in a first section of a space between two adjacent air guide members, the space having a second section which is located opposite the first section relative to the axis of the weft guide channel, the width of the second section being less than that of the first section, thereby preventing the weft yarn from getting out of the weft guide channel to effectively accomplish weft picking.

Weft picking device of air jet loom

A fluid jet shuttleless loom is equipped with a device for providing the moving resistance due to sliding friction, to the weft yarn drawn out of a detaining device prior to projection from the nozzle of a yarn projecting unit. The moving resistance providing device is formed so that the resistance increases with progress of the projection step during which the weft yarn is projected from the nozzle into the shed of the warp yarns.

The weft yarn is selectively gripped and released by movable and stationary disc members in response to the weaving operation of the loom. The gripping force applied to the weft yarn by the members is such controlled that under beating of the reed, the magnitude of the force is decreased by a predetermined value thereby inducing a slippage of the weft yarn in the members.

When weaving, movable and stationary discs grasp or grip intermittently the weft yarn therebetween. One of the discs has at its contacting surface a circular recess encircled by a bank. The ridge of the bank contacting the flat surface of the other disc does the gripping.

A casing is disposed about yarn grasping means, in which yarn waste is collectable, to allow the yarn waste in the casing to be enforcedly exhausted therefrom by the suctorial operation mode by a weft yarn shooting nozzle.

A pair of normally open scissor blades, one fixed the other movable, is mounted on the face of a reed. A pressure applying member closes the blades, via a cam mechanism, at a predetermined position of the reed to sever a weft yarn.
