This invention pertains to an ignition signal generating device for use in a contactless ignition system for an internal combustion engine and more particularly to an ignition signal generating device to control an ignition position in accordance with a revolution of the internal combustion engine. The ignition signal generating device comprises a first signal generating circuit to generate a first signal at a first position corresponding to the maximum advanced position of the internal combustion engine and a second signal generating circuit to generate a second signal at a second position corresponding to the minimum advanced position of the internal combustion engine. A first triangular wave generating circuit is provided which generates a first triangular wave having a given inclination rising during the period from the first signal generating position to the second signal generating position. A first monostable multi-vibrator is triggered by the second signal to generate a square wave signal of a given duration .tau..sub.1. A second triangular wave generating circuit is provided which generates a second triangular wave having a given inclination rising during the period from a falling position of an output from the monostable multi-vibrator at least to the first signal generating position. The maximum value of the triangular wave is maintained until the second signal is generated. An ignition signal generating circuit is provided which produces an ignition signal to determine an ignition position of the internal combustion engine when the signal levels of first and second triangular wave are equal to each other.

Ignition signal generating device for use in contactless ignition system

This invention relates to an ignition system for an internal combustion engine. The ignition system comprises an ignition circuit to generate a spark at an ignition plug in synchronism with a rotation of the internal combustion engine. The ignition circuit may be of a capacitor discharging type or of an ignition primary current interrupting type. The ignition system further comprises an ignition preventing circuit to prevent the ignition circuit from being operated when the internal combustion engine is rotated at a speed of revolution higher than a first set value of r.p.m. and when a throttle valve operating member is quickly returned to a position at which the r.p.m. of the engine is lower than the second set value of r.p.m. which is lower than the first set value of r.p.m. The ignition preventing circuit may be adapted to fully prevent the operation of the ignition circuit. Alternatively, the ignition preventing circuit may be adapted to thin the operation of the ignition circuit.

Ignition system for an internal combustion engine

An ignition system for a multicylinder engine comprising a magneto having an igniting exciter coil to induce an AC voltage in synchronism with rotation of the engine; ignition coils having secondary coil portions respectively connected to ignition plugs for cylinders of the engine, to supply a high voltage to the respective ignition plugs; and a primary current controlling semiconductor switch connected to the igniting exciter coil in parallel therewith to be turned on in advance of respective igniting positions of the cylinders so that a current flows through the semiconductor switch. The ignition system further comprises a signal generator driven by the engine and having signal coils to generate timing signals at the respective igniting positions of the cylinders; and primary current conducting semiconductor switches provided between the respective primary coil portions of the ignition coils and the igniting exciter coil to be turned on by the respective timing signals from the signal generator to abruptly pass the primary current through the respective primary coil portions of the ignition coils whereby a high voltage is established across the secondary coil portions of the ignition coils to spark the ignition plugs.

Ignition system for a multicylinder engine

An ignition system for a multicylinder internal combustion engine comprising a turn-on signal source for producing a turn-on signal a plurality of times per revolution of the engine output shaft, a plurality of trigger signal sources each producing a trigger signal once per revolution, and a plurality of gate circuits enabled by the trigger signal to permit the application of the turn-on signal to the associated one of a plurality of capacitor discharge ignition circuits. Thus each ignition circuit operates once per revolution. The turn-on signal is produced at angles varying with the engine speed, and various ignition angle characteristics can be obtained.

Ignition system for a multicylinder internal combustion engine

A voltage regulator for a magneto AC generator comprising a battery charging generator coil and a loading generator coil, said voltage regulator comprising a first voltage divider to detect a voltage proportional to a terminal voltage of a battery; a second voltage divider to detect a voltage proportional to an output voltage of the loading generator coil; and a controlled rectifier arranged to short-circuit the battery charging generator coil and adapted to be conductive when either of the voltages detected by the first and second voltage dividers is greater than a predetermined value, the battery charging and loading generator coils being arranged to be magnetically bonded with each other.
