A method and apparatus for an adaptive search user interface is provided. An interface is provided that returns search results upon receiving each alphanumeric character of a search query term. Correlations of prefixes of alphanumeric characters and search results selected from previous searches are stored in a correlation matrix. Based upon the correlations in the correlation matrix, relevance rankings for search results with respect to the prefixes of alphanumeric characters are updated. Search results may be grouped based upon one or more common traits. Relevance rankings are also updated based upon the rate of change of selections recorded for a search result.

Methods and techniques for adaptive search

In an embodiment, a first tuner task type is identified from among a plurality of tuner task types, in response to receiving a first tuner request. The first tuner request was made to perform a tuner task of the first tuner task type. A first set of tuner selection rules specifically for the first tuner task type is determined and applied to a set of tuners to determine whether the set of tuners comprises a tuner available to perform the tuner task of the first tuner task type.

Dynamic tuner allocation

A method and apparatus for an adaptive search user interface is provided. The user interface allows for search results to be customized by the user. The user interface includes a discovery bar of multimedia content that includes additional media content, advertisements, and features that are recommended to users. The discovery bar of multimedia content is customizable based upon user command input. The user interface also includes methods and graphical interface in which to resolve recording conflicts.
