An induction heating apparatus includes a first interventional device and a second interventional device. The first interventional device includes an electrically conductive material. The first interventional device is adapted for implantation inside a body and for receiving an alternating current. The second interventional device comprises a magnetically conductive material. The second interventional device is adapted for implantation inside the body in close proximity to the first interventional device. With both devices placed inside the body, the second interventional device magnetically couples with the first interventional device and the second interventional device generates heat upon the application of the alternating current to the first interventional device thereby heating the body site.

Induction heating for the delivery of thermal therapy

A deflectable interstitial ablation device includes an elongated housing, an electrode mounted within the elongated housing, a driver coupled to the electrode, an imaging device integrally mounted within the elongated housing and a deflection system disposed within the elongated housing. The elongated housing has a proximal end, a distal end, and a deflectable segment. The electrode is deployable from a first position within the elongated housing to a second position a predetermined distance beyond the distal end of the elongated housing. The electrode further has a flexible portion capable of deflecting with the deflectable segment of the elongated housing, and can be deployed by the driver with a sufficient force such that penetration of the urethral wall occurs in a single motion. The imaging device further has a flexible portion capable of deflecting with the deflectable segment of the elongated housing. The deflection system has a proximal end in communication with a steering mechanism, for controllably deflecting the deflectable segment of the elongated housing by any angle. The deflection of the deflectable segment allows deflection of the electrode and the imaging device, thus facilitating proper placement of the electrode.

Deflectable interstitial ablation device

A brachytherapy device includes a radiation source and a multi-cannula delivery system for implantation of the radiation source into a body tissue site. The radiation source may be, for example, a substantially straight round wire, a substantially straight flat wire, a detented wire, an embossed wire, a bristled wire, a shaped resilient wire, a twisted round wire, a twisted flat wire, or a coil with or without an inner core, and is adapted for implantation into a body tissue site and for delivery of radiation to the body tissue site. The multi-cannula delivery system includes an outer cannula, an outer stylet, an inner cannula, and an inner stylet. Different configurations of the radiation source according to embodiments of the invention improve distribution of the radiation field in the longitudinal direction and resistance to migration of the radiation source inside a patient's body. The multi-cannula delivery system provides for faster and more accurate placement of the radiation source.

Method and apparatus for the delivery of brachytherapy

A stent device and methods for inserting and removing a stent to and from an anatomical tract of a living being. The stent includes a distal segment and a proximal segment joined by a flexible connection structure. The stent is inserted using components comprising a delivery assembly such that the stent proceeds through the anatomical tract and seats the flexible connection structure of the stent in a natural constricting structure of the anatomical tract. The flexible quality of the connection structure permits the natural constricting functions of the anatomical tract to occur. The natural closure of the anatomical constricting structure stops the flow of fluid, for example, from a target organ which indicates that the stent is properly placed within the anatomical tract.
