A method for synchronizing file system items having a data and metadata portion between a source and a destination storage system; a synchronization log is maintained having synchronization log items associated with the respective file system items; a synchronization log item includes a metadata and data section comprising changetimes of the file system item on the source and destination storage system upon synchronization of the respective metadata and data portion, and includes a selected integrity level selectable from at least a data integrity level and a metadata integrity level.

Synchronizing file system items having a data and metadata portion between a source storage system and a destination storage system

A computer-implemented method is provided for generating a sequence of commands for replicating data on a source storage system to a destination storage system. The source and destination storage system support a first and a second remote file access protocol. The method involves i) scanning a directory of the source storage system for file system objects by the first and second remote file access protocol thereby obtaining a respective first and second representation of the file system objects; and ii) generating the sequence of commands based on the first and second representation and based on a predetermined rule set comprising rules for generating a command for replicating a file system object depending on a difference in representation of file system objects by the first and second remote file access protocol.

Data migration between storage systems using different protocols

A method for migrating data from a source storage system to a destination storage system comprises the following steps. In a first step, an initial copy is performed. In a second step, one or more incremental copies are performed and then a final cutover incremental copy is performed. The performing the one or more incremental copies further comprises excluding from a respective one of the one or more incremental copies first data portions of the data that are likely to change before this performing a final cutover incremental copy.

Some embodiments are directed to processing content units stored on a distributed computer system that comprises a plurality of independent nodes. The content units may be processed by determining which content units are stored on each node and identifying which content units warrant processing. Nodes may be selected to process the content units that warrant processing and instructions may be sent to these nodes to instruct them to process these content units.

Method and apparatus for processing distributed data

One embodiment is directed to the deletion of content units from a storage system. When a content unit is deleted, a reflection may be created and stored on the storage system. The reflection identifies the deleted content unit and may include additional information, such as a portion of the content of the content unit and audit information regarding the deletion of the content unit.
