Disclosed herein are herbal and chemical combinations for promoting weight loss. The herbs in the composition can include, among others, green tea, ginger, cocoa, and yerba mate. Other chemicals in the composition can include, among others, caffeine and a pharmaceutically acceptable salt of calcium.

A dietary supplement for benefitting human bone health includes a calcium source, a source of vitamin D activity, and an osteoblast stimulant. A preferred calcium source is microcrystalline hydroxyapatite, which also contains protein (mostly collagen), phosphorus, fat, and other minerals. A preferred source of vitamin D activity is cholecalciferol, and a preferred osteoblast stimulant is ipriflavone. In addition to these basic ingredients, the composition can further include various other minerals known to occur in bone, vitamin C, and glucosamine sulfate, all of which exert beneficial effects on growth and maintenance of healthy bone. A method for benefitting human bone health involves administering a daily regimen of the dietary supplement.

A composition containing a stabilized form of conjugated linoleic acid is described. The conjugated linoleic acid is reacted with glycerol to form an ester, which is much more resistant to oxidation than the acid form of the conjugated linoleic acid. The composition can additionally contain antioxidants, such as rosemary leaf extract, tocopherols, chelating agents, ascorbic acid, the like. The composition can also contain a fatty acid and/or glycerol ingredient. A method for supplementing an individual's diet is also described.

A composition for promoting gastrointestinal health contains an effective amount of a beneficial human intestinal microorganism and an effective amount of dietary fiber. Preferably, the dietary fiber is a member selected from the group consisting of pentosans, &bgr;-glucans, pectins and pectic polysaccharides, mannans, arabinans and galactans, fructo-oligosaccharides, and mixtures thereof. The bacteria- and fiber-containing composition can optionally contain one or more of an immunoglobulin composition containing concentrated immunologically active immunoglobulins, components of a non-immune defense system, an iron-sequestering molecule, and gluconic acid. Preferred beneficial human intestinal microorganisms include lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. Methods of use are also described.
