A choke for fluid connection between a manifold and a pump. The choke includes a fluid passage having an inlet, a contraction portion, a throat, an expansion portion, and an outlet. The inlet has a first diameter and the outlet has a second diameter. The throat is substantially cylindrical, having a third diameter that is substantially less than the first and second diameters. The contraction portion connects the inlet and the throat and gradually decreases from the first diameter to the third diameter along a longitudinal axis of the fluid passage. The expansion portion connects the throat and the outlet and includes a substantially cylindrical chamber having the second diameter.

Pressure-reducing choke assembly

A blender apparatus is disclosed having a chassis, a mixer positioned on the chassis, and a transfer pump positioned on the chassis. The mixer has a mixer housing defining a first mixer inlet, a second mixer inlet, and a mixer outlet. The first mixer inlet receives a liquid component, and the second mixer inlet receives a dry component. The mixer pressurizes at least the liquid component within the housing and discharges the liquid component through the mixer outlet at a first pressure above hydrostatic pressure. The transfer pump has a pump housing defining a pump inlet, a pump outlet and is devoid of an inlet configured to receive a dry component through a gravity feed. The transfer pump receives the liquid component through the pump inlet, pressurizes the liquid component within the pump housing, and discharges the liquid component through the pump outlet at a second pressure above hydrostatic pressure.

Apparatus and method for servicing a well

A technique for reducing harmonic vibration in a multiplex multi-pump system. The technique includes establishing a lower bound of system specific vibration-related information such as via pressure variation or other vibration indicator. Establishing the lower bound may be achieved through simulation with the system or through an initial sampling period of pump operation. During this time, random perturbations through a subset of the pumps may be utilized to disrupt timing or phase of the subset. Thus, system vibration may randomly increase or decrease upon each perturbation. Regardless, with a sufficient number of sampled perturbations, the lower bound may be established. Therefore, actual controlled system operations may proceed, again employing random perturbations until operation of the system close to the known lower bound is substantially attained.

Method and system for minimizing vibration in a multi-pump arrangement

A technique facilitates mixing of cement slurry for use in a cementing application. At least one cement mixer is provided with a tank, e.g. a conical tank, having a powder cement blend inlet and a mixing liquid inlet. A cement slurry discharge may be positioned generally beneath the tank. A mixing assembly also is positioned below the tank and driven by a shaft. The mixing assembly is exposed to an interior of the tank and is used to mix the cement slurry when rotated by the shaft and to direct the cement slurry out through the cement slurry discharge. Additionally, a recirculation system comprises an inlet positioned to receive a portion of the cement slurry mixed in the mixing assembly. The recirculation system also comprises an outlet positioned to direct the portion back into the mixer to enhance mixing effects.

Mixing system for cement and fluids

A system and method are disclosed for preparing a treatment fluid and includes charging packets containing an additive encased within a liner to a first container packet storage area of a first container; passing the packets to a packet shredder; breaching the liners of the packets to expose the additive; passing exposed additive to a mixer; passing an aqueous solution to the mixer from a second container; and mixing the exposed additive with the aqueous solution to form the treatment fluid. The first container can also include a first container proppant storage area, and proppant is passed from the first container proppant storage area to the mixer. The treatment fluid can be charged to a well bore penetrating a subterranean formation. The system and method can also include a silo positioned in fluid flow communication with the first container and partitioned into a silo packet storage area and a silo proppant storage area.

System and method for preparing a treatment fluid

A pumping system including a plurality of pumps each having a pump fluid outlet, a drive shaft, a prime mover, and fluid displacing members operatively coupled with the drive shaft. A common fluid conduit may be fluidly coupled with each pump fluid outlet. A control system of the pumping system includes position sensors operable to generate information relating to phase and/or speed of each pump, pressure sensors operable to generate information relating to fluid pressure spikes, and a controller in communication with the position and pressure sensors. The controller is operable to cause the prime movers to adjust the phasing of the pumps with respect to each other, based on the information relating to fluid pressure spikes, and synchronize the speed of the pumps.

Reducing fluid pressure spikes in a pumping system

A mixer sensing assembly of a mixer for mixing a wellsite fluid in a tank at a wellsite is provided. The mixer includes a shaft driven by a driver and a paddle operatively connectable to the shaft and rotatable therewith. The sensor assembly includes a mount operatively connectable to the shaft, a fluid interface, and a mixing sensor. The fluid interface is responsive to flow of the wellsite fluid passing thereby, and is connectable to the mount. The mixing sensor is connectable to the mount, the fluid interface, and/or the shaft to measure a strain applied to the thereto whereby fluid parameters of the wellsite fluid may be determined. The wellsite fluid may be mixed moving the components in the tank with the mixer, and measuring a strain on the mixer by detecting movement of the sensor assembly.

Wellsite mixer sensing assembly and method of using same

A centralized power system including at least one engine having a plurality of discharge connectors; a plurality of articulating power connectors, each articulating power connector comprising a first end connected to a corresponding discharge connector, and a second end connectable to at least one piece of oilfield equipment thereby supplying power from the at least one engine to the oilfield equipment.

The current application discloses a non-contact, non-radioactive densitometer system, comprising a curved tube containing an oilfield fluid, a mass measuring device connected to the curved tube, and a data acquisition system connected to the mass measuring device. The mass measuring device measures the mass of the curved tube and the data acquisition system calculate the density of the oilfield fluid in the curved tube. In one embodiment, the non-contact, non-radioactive densitometer system further comprises an antilog amplifier that is connected between the mass measuring device and the data acquisition system, where the antilog amplifier transforms the mass of the curved tube into an exponential value which is then fed into the data acquisition system.

Non-radioactive density measurement in oilfield operations

A system and method for mitigating dust migration at a wellsite is described. An oilfield material reservoir is provided for receiving oilfield material, the oilfield material reservoir having an enclosure. A dust collector is provided for collecting dust generated at the oilfield material reservoir, and a duct in communication with the enclosure and the dust collector is provided for transferring dust generated at the oilfield material reservoir to the dust collector.

System and method for mitigating dust migration at a wellsite

Systems for preparing emulsions can include a first fluid tank, a second fluid tank, and a circulation loop comprising a buffer tank and a pump, in some arrangements. The first fluid tank and the second fluid tank can be in fluid communication with the circulation loop via a first fluid inlet pipe and a second fluid inlet pipe, respectively. An outlet pipe can be in fluid communication with the circulation loop.

Blending system and method for preparing emulsions

A method includes measuring electrical conductivity of a treatment fluid with one or more sensors at various instants of time. The method is further performed by generating one or more signals indicative of the electrical conductivity of the treatment fluid and transmitting the one or more signals to a computer system. The method is further performed by analyzing the one or more signals to determine a phase change in the treatment fluid based upon a positive or negative change in the electrical conductivity of the treatment fluid from a predetermined electrical conductivity range.
