Web lifter and/or stabilizer and method of lifting and/or stabilizing a travelling web and for coating a web. The device creates a web hold down force via a negative pressure slot at its exit side, which draws the web down against the surface on the entry side. The device can be actuated to move the web relative to a slot die coater off the die lips and stop the application of slurry to the web, thereby creating uncoated regions on the web surface. The device can then be actuated to move the web back into contact with the coater to start the application of slurry to the web, thereby creating coated regions on the web surface. Web lifting can be accomplished by rotating the device in first and second directions to lift the web off of the slot die coater and return the web back into contact with the coater.

Web lifter and/or stabilizer and method of lifting and/or stabilizing a travelling web and coating a web. An improved system for applying a coating to a sheet is disclosed. The system allows precise control of the actuation of the valves and movement of the nozzle to create a plurality of coating profiles. The system includes a controller, which is used to actuate the valves to begin and terminate the flow of material onto the sheet through a nozzle. In addition, the controller may move the nozzle from its operative position to an inoperative position away from the sheet. In some embodiments, a fluid displacement mechanism is used. The controller is also able to coat the opposite side of the sheet. Registration of the coating can be programmed to be in exact alignment, or advanced or delayed by a specific amount.

Method and apparatus for coating discrete patches

A burner having improved flame quality even at high turn-down ratios. The burner includes a flow director which is preferably a bent sheet or plate positioned in the burner to alter the flow geometry of the air component into a series of channels where the air mixes with the fuel. Preferably the flow director is perforated, the perforations providing a second avenue for the flow of air into the mixing channel.

Control system and method for monitoring and controlling the stoichiometry of a secondary air burner in a thermal oxidizer. The burner control system secures a certain stoichiometry independent of possible simultaneous changes of the gas mixture flow rate and/or of the combustible impurity concentration in the process gas. The firing rate of the burner is adjusted by a controller. Additionally, the flow of the burner fuel and of the process gas mixture are measured and transformed into separate signals. Both signals are sent to an evaluation apparatus that compares the signals and generates a third signal based upon that comparison. This third signal is in communication with a device that changes the gas mixture flow resistance, and thus the desired amount of gas mixture will be diverted for the combustion of the fuel.

Operational process and its improved control system of a secondary air

Raw gas burner that maximizes fuel efficiency of the burner, minimizes residence time, and reduces or eliminates flame contact with the process air or gas in order to minimize NOx formation. Process air flow such as from the cold side of a heat exchanger associated with thermal oxidizer apparatus is directed into and around the burner. The amount of process air flowing into the burner is regulated based upon the pressure drop created by the burner assembly. The pressure drop is, in turn, regulated by one or more of an external damper assembly, an internal damper assembly, and movement of the burner relative to the apparatus in which it is mounted. To ensure thorough mixing of the fuel and process air, process air entering the burner is caused to spin by the use of a swirl generator. The fuel/process air mixture proceeds into the combustion section of the burner, where the swirling flow is caused to recirculate to ensure complete combustion of the fuel in the combustion chamber. The mixture of burned fuel and process gas transfers its energy flamelessly to the process gas circulating outside the burner combustion chamber, and is hot enough to ignite the process gas there, which then burns separately from the burner combustion chamber, such as in the main combustion enclosure of the thermal post-combustion device.

Raw gas burner and process for burning oxygenic constituents in process

Process and apparatus for burning combustible constituents in process gas in a main combustion enclosure, preferably a thermal post-combustion device, whereby the main combustion enclosure is separated from a combustion chamber, into which oxygenic gas and gaseous fuel are fed, mixed and burnt. The fuel for the apparatus is fed through a lance which opens into a mixing chamber supplied with oxygenic gas, which is either itself the combustion chamber or merges with it, and the outer surface of the combustion chamber is exposed at least partially to the process gas. The fuel is burned completely or nearly completely in the burner combustion chamber and the mixture of burned fuel and gas leaving the combustion chamber oxidizes the combustible constitutes in the process gas flowing outside of the combustion chamber by yielding flameless heat energy to them.

A reflector for use in drying a substrate is disclosed, which houses infrared or ultraviolet lamps. The reflector is designed to limit the path of light from each lamp to mitigate interference from one lamp to the next. The reflector is cooled and the substrate is heated by convection.
