A method operates a power converter having at least one series circuit of switching modules, which each have semiconductor switches and an energy store. In which method a switching frequency of the switching modules is controlled by tolerance based modulation, and the forming of a switching integral value for the tolerance based modulation takes into account an absolute amount of an arm current flowing through the series circuit. A power converter has a control device that is configured to perform the method.

Hysteretic control using arm current and error voltage in a modular multilevel converter

A power converter has at least one series circuit of switching modules that each have semiconductor switches and an energy storage unit. A method of operating the power converter includes a step of making a prediction for at least one voltage value of the power converter and carrying out switching operations on the switching modules based on the prediction in order to regulate a switching frequency. A method operates a power converter having power converter arms, which are switchable between in each case an AC voltage side and a DC voltage side or connectable to phase lines of an AC voltage power supply system. Each power converter arm has a series circuit of switching modules each having a plurality of semiconductor switches and an energy store, in which at least one temperature value for the power converter is determined. A setpoint current limitation value is determined taking into consideration the temperature value, and a setpoint current value is determined taking into consideration the setpoint current limitation value. The temperature value, the arm setpoint current value, the arm actual current value and/or the arm setpoint current limitation value is time-integrated to form an arm integral value. When the arm integral value reaches or exceeds a predetermined arm integral threshold value, a protective measure is performed.

Power converter and method for operating the power converter

A method manages a fault on a DC voltage side of a converter assembly including a modular multistage converter with switching modules having semiconductor switches and an energy store. Some switching modules are a first type and others are a second type. During operation, a positive switching module voltage, negative switching module voltage or zero voltage are generated at terminals of switching modules of the first type, and a positive switching module voltage or zero voltage are generated at terminals of switching modules of the second type. Upon detecting a DC voltage side fault, switching modules of the first type are actuated such that the polarity of their energy store voltages corresponds to the polarity of a fault current, and energy stores of switching modules of the first type are charged to a voltage exceeding their rated voltage. A converter assembly carrying out the method is also provided.

A method controls a converter having a plurality of switching modules. Each of the switching modules has controllably interruptible semiconductor switches and an energy store. A switching frequency of the switching modules is regulated in consideration of at least one integral limiting value, wherein the at least one integral limiting value is variably determined over time, in accordance with the energy store voltages of the switching modules.

A converter configuration has a converter. The AC voltage side of which can be connected to an AC voltage grid and the DC voltage side of which can be connected to a storage configuration. The converter has a plurality of converter arms, which each have a series circuit of semiconductor switching modules, and the storage configuration is arranged in parallel with at least one of the converter arms. The storage configuration contains a multiplicity of series circuits of individual energy storage modules. Each series circuit extends between a first and a second DC voltage busbar such that the series circuits are connected in parallel with one another. The converter configuration further has a balancing apparatus for balancing energy storage module voltages of the energy storage modules. The balancing apparatus contains balancing lines, which connect individual energy storage modules of different series circuits to one another.
