A user operates a user interface to select a rule for executing the process of a work flow, which is stored in a personal data base or a shared data base, and sends the conditional part of the selected rule as the goal to a query portion. Then, the query portion successively executes the process of the work flow through the computation by the SLD contradiction. When the goal fails in the execution by the computation, the failure goal is transferred as a tapple to the tapple space. The tapple is solved by another query portion, and the result of executing the tapple is returned to the tapple space. If a rule for executing the tapple is not found, the task is processed by man or a user and the result of the processing is entered into the system. In answer to this, the system interprets that the task has been proved to be true, and continues the execution of the work flow process.

Work flow support system

A table allocating apparatus for producing a layout of a table. In the apparatus, both of a linear equation for representing a column width of a table or a row height thereof by employing a parameter, and a section constraint condition corresponding to a combination of conditions for satisfying the parameter in order that a height or a width of a rectangle becomes constant when each of texts arranged in a table item column is allocated are set, then a layout evaluation formula expressed by the linear equation with employment of the parameter and indicative of better states of a layout for each of the section constraint conditions is calculated. Further, such a linear programming problem that the section constraint condition is used as a restriction condition and the layout evaluation formula corresponding to each of the section constraint conditions is used as an objective function is solved, thereby obtaining a set of an optimum layout evaluation value and a parameter corresponding to the optimum layout evaluation value, or an infeasible solution of the problem, and when the set of the optimum layout evaluation value and the parameter corresponding thereto is acquired, a set of the optimum layout evaluation value and the parameter corresponding thereto based on the acquired result among all of the linear programming problems are retrieved, whereby a table layout is determined based upon the set of the optimum layout evaluation value and the parameter corresponding thereto.

Table allocating apparatus and method

A logical structure retaining device retains a corresponding relationship between heading information and table data, such as attributes used to search a data base and data obtained by the search. A table form retaining device retains one or plural sets of parameters that determine respective table forms. The parameters can be edited by a table form editing device. A table generating device generates a table by receiving information including the corresponding relationship between the heading information and the table data, referring to the parameters of the table form retaining device, calling, if necessary, a parameter designating device to input parameter values, and generating row heading items, column heading items and data items based on the above information.
