A method for producing ceramics reinforced with three-dimensional fibers, which entails: a) setting a filter plate in contact with one surface of a three-dimensional fiber preform and a porous metallic plate in contact with said filter plate; b) setting a slurry in contact with a surface of the preform opposite to the one surface; c) exerting pressure on the slurry and, at the same time, subjecting the preform to vacuum aspiration through the filter plate, thereby obtaining a composite having an impregnated preform, the impregnation being effected in a single step; d) heating the composite; and e) firing the resultant composite.

Method for producing ceramics reinforced with three-dimensional fibers

A fiber-reinforced ceramic composite material reinforced by particle dispersion with improved fracture toughness comprised of a mullite matrix, and fibers and same or different kind of ceramic fine particles both dispersed within the mullite matrix is produced by a method comprising: dispersing mullite particles forming a matrix in a solution dissolving an organometallic macromolecular substance to prepare an impregnating solution, continuously passing fibers through said impregnating solution to uniformly impregnate the fibers with said impregnating solution, laminating said fibers to provide a laminated body, converting the organometallic macromolecular substance within said laminated body into a nonmeltable state, and performing sintering (or press sintering) of said laminated body in an inert gas and/or nitrogen gas. By press sintering K.sub.Ic of 10 MN/m.sup.3/2 or more is achieved.

Method of producing fiber-reinforced and particle-dispersion reinforced

A sintered article having a matrix of titanium diboride and a dispersed reinforcing phase of silicon carbide is produced by mixing titanium diboride powder and silicon carbide powder or whiskers, combining the resultant mixture with silicon boride, and sintering the produced mixture in a non-oxidative atmosphere under a pressure of at least 300 kg/cm.sub.2 at a temperature of at least 1,300.degree.C.

Method for production of sintered ceramic article containing titanium

A fiber-reinforced ceramic composite material reinforced by particle dispersion with improved fracture toughness comprised of a mullite matrix, and fibers and same or different kind of ceramic fine particles both dispersed within the mullite matrix is produced by a method comprising: dispersing mullite particles forming a matrix in a solution dissolving an organometallic macromolecular substance to prepare an impregnating solution, continuously passing fibers through said impregnating solution to uniformly impregnate the fibers with said impregnating solution, laminating said fibers to provide a laminated body, converting the organometallic macromolecular substance within said laminated body into a nonmeltable state, and performing sintering (or press sintering) of said laminated body in an inert gas and/or nitrogen gas. By press sintering K.sub.Ic of 10 MN/m.sub.3/2 or more is achieved.

Fiber-reinforced and particle-dispersion reinforced mullite composite

A continuous carbon fiber reinforced SiC composite is produced by a method which comprises impregnating continuous carbon fibers coated with a SiC or titanium compound with a slurry mixture of silicon or a silicon compound with a thermosetting resin or a high-carbon caking agent, molding the impregnated continuous carbon fibers in a prescribed shape to obtain a shaped impregnated article, then curing the shaped article, heating the shaped article to obtain a carbon fiber-carbon composite having SiC or titanium compound, further impregnating liquid Si into the composite and heating the impregnated composite.

Method for production of continuous carbon fiber reinforced SiC composite

A sintered composite having spinel reinforced with short fibers of silicon carbide is produced by preparing a slurry consisting of spinel powder, short fibers of silicon carbide, and a solvent, drying and pulverizing the slurry, and sintering the produced powder. The sintered composite produced as described above has silicon carbide homogeneously dispersed in a matrix of spinel and, therefore, possesses great strength and excels in toughness.
