A method is provided for the regeneration of an individual coconut plantlet. It comprises culturing a tissue explant of an undifferentiated male flower of a coconut tree in a culture medium, which contains 10-50 ppm of an auxin, 0.1-3% of a polysaccharide produced by a bacterium of Pseudomonas and 0.05-1% of activated carbon, in a dark place until a shoot-like structure appears; and then culturing under exposure to light of 3,000-20,000 luxes while repeating its subculture in a fresh culture medium.

A composition for curing autoimmune diseases is disclosed. The composition comprises as an effective component an acidic heteropolysaccharide which is secreted by a callus induced from a plant belonging to the genus Polianthes L. The acidic heteropolysaccharide can be prepared as a uniform product by the application of plant tissue culture methods and exhibits superior capability of removing immunocomplexes with the least side effects.

Alkaline cellulases having an optimum pH in an alkaline range and being stable over a broad pH range are produced by microorganisms which belong to the genus Bacillus and grow in a neutral medium. These alkaline cellulases are rarely inhibited by ingredients ordinarily incorporated in detergents such as surface active agents, proteinases and chelating agents, so that they can be conveniently used in detergent compositions.

Novel alkaline cellulase K, CMCase I and CMCase II are obtained by isolation from a culture product of Bacillus sp KSM-635.
