An object of the present invention is to eliminate COG irregularities around a display area caused by distortion of a glass substrate generated when IC chips are connected by a COG method in a liquid crystal display device. A liquid crystal display panel configured using an opposed substrate and a TFT substrate and a backlight are accommodated using an upper frame and a lower frame. IC chips are connected to an end portion of the TFT substrate of the liquid crystal display panel via ACFs by the COG method. Protrusions formed at the upper frame are in contact with the both sides of each IC chip, and the distortion of the TFT substrate generated by the COG method is eliminated by the protrusions. The TFT substrate can be flattened by eliminating the distortion, and the COG irregularities around the display area can be suppressed.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device is constructed such that a liquid crystal layer is sandwiched between an upper substrate, which is provided with upper transparent electrodes for forming pixels, and a lower substrate, which is provided with lower transparent electrodes disposed so as to intersect with the upper transparent electrodes. The liquid crystal panel includes a half reflection layer having a reflection function and a transmission function which is formed on the inner surface of the lower substrate as a lower layer of the lower transparent electrodes; an upper retardation film, an upper polarizing plate, and a light diffusing plate which are laminated on the upper substrate; and a lower retardation film and a lower polarizing plate, which are laminated on the surface of the lower substrate. Due to such a construction, the half reflection type liquid crystal display device is capable of providing an image display of high brightness and high contrast.

A liquid crystal display device comprising upper and lower substrates with electrodes on the inner surfaces thereof, at least one of said upper and lower substrates including an extended portion thereof which projects beyond the edge of the other substrate, liquid crystal material sandwiched between said upper and lower substrates, a sealing member disposed around the periphery enclosing said liquid crystal material, a driving integrated circuit chip mounted on the inner surface of said extended portion, metal film wiring formed on the inner surface of said extended portion mechanically and electrically connected to said driving integrated circuit chip via solder, polyimide resin coating covering said metal film wirings, and resin coating covering said polyimide resin for filling up pinholes in the polyimide resin coating and being of low viscosity before curing.

Liquid crystal display device having an extention metal film wiring

A liquid crystal display device comprises first and second substrates coated on the inner surfaces thereof with electrodes, at least one of said first and second substrates including an extended portion thereof with projects beyond the edge of the other of said substrates, a sealing member disposed around the periphery enclosing liquid crystal material and sealing between the substrates, input conductors disposed on the inner surface of said extended portion and electrically connected to said electrodes, a plurality of driving integrated circuit chips mounted on the inner surface of said extended portion and electrically connected to said input conductors, including a plurality of pairs of input terminals thereof electrically connected, one input terminal constituting each pair is arranged in the reverse order on one side of a reference line with respect to the other constituting the pair on the other side of a reference line, metal film conductor formed on the inner surface of said extended portion and connecting said corresponding input terminals of said adjacent chips, a plurality of external contact terminals to an external apparatus, formed on the inner surface of said extended portion and electrically connected to input terminals of said chip.
