A transport device includes: a belt member that runs in a loop to transport an object to be transported, the belt member having an outer circumferential surface and an inner circumferential surface; a rotary member that is pressed against one of the outer and inner circumferential surfaces of the belt member and that is movable in a predetermined moving direction; and a pressing member that presses the rotary member toward the one of the outer and inner circumferential surfaces of the belt member and that moves in the moving direction while maintaining the angle thereof with respect to the moving direction when the rotary member moves in the moving direction.

An image forming apparatus includes an image holding member on which an image is held, and a transfer unit transferring the held image to a recording material, wherein the transfer unit includes, a transfer roll disposed to be opposite to the image holding member, forming a transfer electric field, and transferring the image to the recording material, a drive unit applying driving force to the transfer roll, a torque limiting machanics limiting an upper limit of torque which acts on the transfer roll, and an inertia member provided to increase an amount of inertia with respect to the transfer roll and moving the transfer roll with inertia in a direction in which a speed difference between the image holding member and the transfer roll is decreased when the upper limit of torque acts on the transfer roll.

According to an aspect of the invention, an image writing apparatus includes an image writing unit, a moving unit, a positioning unit. The image writing unit faces an image carrier or a support member supporting a recording medium and writes an image on the image carrier or the recording medium. The moving unit moves the image writing unit between a first position and a second position apart from the first position. A positioning unit sets the image writing unit in the first position and includes a first restriction member, a second restriction member, a third restriction member, and a restriction releasing portion. The first restriction member restricts a first movement of the image writing unit along a first direction from the image carrier to the image writing unit or from the support member to the image writing unit.

A light scanning device which exposes a photoconductor of an image forming apparatus, includes: a light emitting unit which emits a light; a mirror which reflects a light emitted by the light emitting unit in a direction toward the photoconductor; an obtaining unit which obtains data on a speed of an image formation; and a mirror support unit which has at least one contact member provided so that it can be brought into contact with or be detached from the mirror, and which changes at least one of a position and a number of contact members contacting the mirror on the basis of data obtained by the obtaining unit.
