A handle device is provided comprising a first wing and a second wing. The first wing and the second wing are configured to pivot about a common axis to one another. The first wing has one or more first ridge, and a first one or more clearance spaces. The second wing has one or more second ridges and a second one or more clearance spaces. The one or more first ridges is configured to be received within the second one or more clearance spaces and the one or more second ridges is configured to be received within the first one or more clearance spaces when the first wing is pivoted about the common axis to the second wing in a folded configuration.

Various embodiments are described herein for a system and a method for treatment planning for providing ablative therapy to a patient. The treatment planning may involve segmenting images of the patient to define areas to receive treatment, defining trial parameters, simulating treatment of ablative therapy to the patient according to the trial parameters; analyzing a thermal dose distribution resulting from the simulated treatment to determine treatment effectiveness; determining when the treatment effectiveness meets a treatment effectiveness criteria; and providing an indication of the trial parameters when the treatment effectiveness meets the treatment effectiveness criteria.

System and method for minimally invasive thermal ablation treatment planning

A device and method for preserving organisms (e.g. causative organisms in a case of osteomyelitis) in a biopsy sample during transport or storage in a manner which obviates or mitigates deleterious effects of lengthy periods of transport or storage on the success rate of determining the identity of the organism and subsequent testing. The device includes a reservoir which contains a transport medium, an outlet for releasable connection with a biopsy sample housing (e.g. a syringe with a luer connector element) containing a biopsy sample, and a closure member to seal the outlet before use. The transport medium can be delivered from the reservoir to the syringe, when the two are connected, and the reservoir-syringe unit can be transported as a sealed unit.

Vascular conditions are detected non-invasively in the human body using a collection of information from small local regions of the vasculature. An array of accelerometers are attached to the head and blood flow sounds are recorded. Vibration signatures of vessel structures such as branches, aneurysms, stenosis, etc. using random, periodic, band limited or transient analysis provides a signature library for further processing. The signature library is used to localize the origin of recognized vascular features and the localized feature is presented to the physician in a clinically relevant manner.

An embodiment of the present invention provides a kit of parts for use in a surgical procedure performed under image guidance, and particularly under real time image guidance. The kit includes a sterilized drape for use with the chosen imaging machine and which can be used to provide a sterile operating environment when the procedure is performed under the imaging beam. The kit also includes a needle holder that can keep the surgeon's hand away from the imaging beam. The needle holder is operable to hold a needle that is made from a material suitable for piercing tissue, but also substantially preserves the appearance of the needle when it is viewed under the imaging beam.

Apparatus for use in a surgical procedure

A bone cement apparatus () is provided. In an embodiment, the apparatus includes a syringe () and a needle (). The syringe and needle are interconnected by a connecting tube (). Various fittings are employed to join the syringe, needle and connecting tube. The connecting tube and fittings present a pathway along which bone cement is carried. The connecting tube, fittings, and needle are all configured such that a substantially uniform pathway is provided from the end of the syringe to the end of the needle.

The invention provides a stent made from a material operable to perform a stent's desired therapeutic functions, and also made from a material that has a radiopacity that substantially preserves the appearance of the stent when the stent is viewed under a CT imaging beam. Such a stent can allow for follow-up of the stent and the surrounding blood-vessel on CT.

An apparatus for administering a therapeutic is provided. In various embodiments, the apparatus includes an ozone generator for producing therapeutic oxygen-ozone mixture. The generator includes an electrochemical cell configured to communicate with an accumulator having an anode, a cathode and a power supply in electrical communication with the anode and the cathode. The power supply is configured to create an electric current between the anode and the cathode such that water in the electrochemical cell electrolyzes to produce ozone and oxygen at the anode.

A method for augmenting bone in a subject in need thereof including installing within an interior portion of a bone located in the subject a sufficient amount of a biocompatible material to form a scaffold within the bone interior, wherein the scaffold serves as a support for the formation of new bone within the bone interior portion, and administering to the subject a sufficient amount of at least one bone augmentation agent to elevate blood concentration of at least one anabolic agent in the subject. The method may further include administering at least one anti-resorptive agent to the subject in an amount sufficient to substantially prevent resorption of new bone growth. In another embodiment, the method may further include a step of mechanically inducing an increase in osteoblast activity in the subject, wherein the elevation in blood concentration of the anabolic agent and the increase in osteoblast activity at least partially overlap in time.

Methods and compositions for fostering and preserving bone growth

A cement delivery needle apparatus () and a method of flowing a bone cement through a vertebroplasty needle apparatus are provided. The cement delivery needle apparatus () includes a sheath () and a handle (). The sheath () has an inlet () to receive a bone cement and an outlet () for expressing the cement into a vertebral body. The handle () extends from the sheath () and includes a vibration assembly () for agitating the cement. The method includes providing a bone cement source to the needle. The method further includes providing a vibration assembly associated with a handle of the needle, agitating the cement with the vibration assembly and injecting the cement through the sheath.
