An interbody implant system is provided. The interbody implant system includes an implant having an engagement surface and an instrument including a first member and a second member that is movable relative to the first member. The first member is configured to capture the implant and the second member includes an interface configured to engage the engagement surface to releasably lock the implant in at least one orientation relative to the second member. The at least one of the engagement surface and the interface include at least one planar face. Methods of use are disclosed.

Pivotable interbody implant system

A surgical guide is disclosed and methods of use are disclosed. The surgical guide is adapted to receive a surgeon's finger for dissecting to a target site. The surgical guide comprises a first component defining a channel and comprising a palpating portion and a non-palpating portion disposed on an opposing side from the palpating portion. The surgical guide further comprises a second component engaged with the first component and defining a guide channel extending therethrough. The guide channel is adapted to receive a guide pin suitable for insertion to the target site such that the guide pin is carried adjacent the non-palpating portion of the first component.

Surgical pin guide and methods of use

An interbody spacer includes an elongated body with a maximum width between opposite side walls and a maximum height between upper and lower bearing surfaces. The interbody spacer also includes a leading end nose connecting the side walls to facilitate insertion of the interbody spacer into a disc space between vertebrae in an insertion orientation, from which the interbody device is then rotated to position the upper and lower bearing surfaces in contact with the endplates of the adjacent vertebrae. The leading end nose forms a blunt convex nose between the upper and lower bearing surfaces to maximize the bearing surface area available to contact the adjacent endplates.

Vertebral interbody spacer

A spinal implant for positioning in a space formed between vertebral members. The implant includes a number of sections that are pivotally attached together at pivot axes. The pivot axes include connectors that extend through at least a portion of the sections and are configured for the sections to be pivotally attached for the implant to be flexible to facilitate insertion into the space and to be configurable to the space. One of the sections may include a receptacle that is contained within the section. The receptacle has a fixed size and shape that holds bone growth material. The fixed size and shape of the receptacle prevents the bone growth from escaping during flexing of the implant.

Flexiable spinal implant

A component with an engaging mechanism is disclosed. The component comprises a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the proximal end is configured to cooperate with a tool. The proximal end comprises an outer portion configured for cooperating with the tool and an inner portion configured for cooperating with the tool, wherein the inner portion comprises an engaging element configured for cooperating with a distal portion of the tool so that the engaging element provides a temporary engagement between the component and the distal portion of the tool. A system for engaging a component with a tool also is disclosed.

Tool and component engaging mechanism

A spinal implant particularly adapted for lateral expansion while disposed in the disc space between adjacent vertebrae. The implant includes a first frame member pivotally linked to a second frame member via at least one, and preferably multiple, pivoting links. The implant may be inserted into the disc space in a collapsed configuration using a lateral approach, and then expanded in the anterior-posterior direction (lateral to insertion direction) to a deployed configuration where the first and second frame members are farther apart. The implant may be expanded by holding one frame member and pushing on the other frame member or one or more proximal links linking the two frame members.

Laterally expandable interbody spinal fusion implant

Methods and devices for minimally invasive surgery in a patient. A tubular body is disclosed which includes in its side wall a plurality of longitudinal passages. Elongated blocking members are also disclosed which are inserted into the passages. The elongated blocking members block deflected interfering tissue during the surgery.

Tissue retractor

An intervertebral implant system for positioning between an upper vertebra and a lower vertebra is provided. The implant system comprises an intervertebral implant and a staple. The implant comprises an inferior plate and a superior plate, while the superior plate has a vertebral surface facing the upper vertebra and the inferior plate has a vertebral surface facing the lower vertebra. There are two grooves on at least one vertebral surface extending at an angle outward from a centerline on the vertebral surface as they extend from the anterior portion of the plate toward the posterior portion of the plate. When in use, the staple is associated with the two grooves for maintaining stability of the intervertebral implant and preventing backing out of the intervertebral implant. The staple also has two arms and has a generally rectangular shape prior to use.

A prosthetic device for posterior placement in an intervertebral space defined between an upper vertebrae and a lower vertebrae may include an upper articular portion configured to be at least partially disposed in the intervertebral space and a lower articular portion configured to be at least partially disposed in the intervertebral space below the upper articular portion, the upper and lower articular portions being configured to provide articulating motion to the upper and lower vertebrae. The upper and lower articular portions each may include a posterior section configured to be disposed in a location posterior of the intervertebral space. The posterior section of one of the upper and lower articular portions may include a post, and the posterior section of the other of the upper and lower articular portions may include a receiving portion configured to interact with the post during articulation.

Posterior joint replacement device

A prosthetic device for placement in an intervertebral space defined between an upper vertebra and a lower vertebra to provide articulating motion to the upper and lower vertebrae may includes an upper articular portion configured to be at least partially disposed in the intervertebral space and a lower articular portion configured to be at least partially disposed in the intervertebral space. The lower articular portion may be configured to cooperate with the upper articular portion to provide articulating motion to the upper and lower vertebrae. An attachment element may extend in the general direction of the spinal column. The attachment element may be configured to be fastened to at least one of the upper and the lower vertebrae to at least partially secure in place said one of the upper and lower articular portions. A method of implanting also is disclosed.
