An exhaust passage extends from an internal combustion engine to conduct exhaust from the engine. A filter is disposed in the exhaust passage to catch particles in the exhaust. A burner is disposed in the exhaust passage at a position upstream of the filter. The burner receives a mixture of air and fuel and burns the mixture to burn off the particles deposited on the filter. The burner includes a vaporizing member and a guide member.

Particle removing system for an internal combustion engine

An exhaust gas recirculation system is applied to an internal combustion engine having a combustion chamber and an exhaust passage conducting exhaust gas from the combustion chamber to the atmosphere. The system includes a first mechanism provided to recirculate the exhaust gas through the combustion chamber. A second mechanism is associated with the first mechanism to adjustably determine the percentage of the exhaust gas recirculated. A sensor detects the average pressure in the exhaust passage. In response to the detected exhaust pressure, a third mechanism controls the second mechanism in such a manner that the percentage of the exhaust gas recirculated is independent of the variations in the average pressure in the exhaust passage.

Exhaust gas recirculation system for an internal combustion engine

A piston has formed in the top thereof a part-spherical depression which forms part of a combustion chamber. The depression is so formed as to permit the flame front during the initial stage of combustion to reach the surface of the depression substantially at the same time, giving better conditions for efficient combustion and short combustion duration.

In an exhaust gas recirculation system for an internal combustion engine having an intake manifold in which a throttle valve is disposed and an exhaust gas conduit provided with a particle trap for accumulatively catching particles entrained by exhaust gas discharged from the engine, a control valve apparatus which is disposed in a recirculation passage and connected to the intake manifold downstream of the throttle valve and to the exhaust gas conduit upstream of the particle trap. The control valve apparatus comprises a first control means which is adapted for controlling the exhaust gas recirculation on the basis of the vacuum pressure prevailing in the intake manifold downstream of the throttle valve, and a second control means which is adapted for cooperating with the first control means to maintain optimum exhaust gas recirculation despite an increase in the pressure of the exhaust gas caused by clogging of the particle trap.
