The present disclosure relates to internal combustion engines. The teachings thereof may be embodied in a method for determining a torque reserve for an internal combustion engine during a change of an operating state. The method may include: operating the internal combustion engine in the first operating state; determining a rotational speed; determining a torque; determining an air mass setpoint value based on the rotational speed and the torque in the second operating state; calculating a torque setpoint value depending on the rotational speed and the air mass setpoint value in the first operating state; and determining a torque reserve for the transition from the first operating state to the second operating state using based on the torque and on the torque setpoint value.

Operating methods for internal combustion engines

In a process for controlling an internal combustion engine () having at least one cylinder (Zto Z) in which a combustion chamber () is formed, fuel is injected in at least two modes of operation. The process has the following steps: relative to an operating point determined by at least one operating variable (), an operating mode quality value is calculated for each of at least two operating modes, an operating mode (OPMOD_SEL) is selected from the at least two operating modes depending on the operating mode quality values, and correcting variables are determined and set depending on the at least one operating variable () and the selected operating mode (OPMOD_SEL).

Process and device for controlling an internal combustion engine

In a method for controlling an internal combustion engine () during which two operating modes (OPMOD) are switched between under the permissible variation of at least one first and one second torque manipulated variables if, as a result, a torque-neutral changing over into the target operating mode (OPMOD_F) can be achieved within a cylinder segment. If the predetermined changing over condition is fulfilled, a torque-neutral changing over occurs while varying the at least first and second torque manipulated variables. If the predetermined changing over condition is not fulfilled, the initial operating mode (OPMOD_I) is maintained and at least one of the at least first and second torque manipulated variables and an at least one third torque manipulated variable are torque neutrally varied until the change over condition is fulfilled.
