Provided are a laser element and a method for manufacturing the same, in which the laser element includes a first clad layer, an optical waveguide disposed on the first clad layer, a second clad layer disposed on the optical waveguide, a first electrode disposed on the second clad layer, and a dummy clad disposed on the optical waveguide and apart from the second clad layer and the first electrode.

Laser element and method for producing same

According to an embodiment, a wavelength tunable laser comprising a gain region and a wavelength tunable area is disclosed. The wavelength tunable area comprises: a lower clad layer; a passive optical waveguide positioned on the lower clad layer; an upper clad layer positioned on the passive optical waveguide; a drive electrode positioned on the upper clad layer; a current blocking layer positioned on the drive electrode; a heater positioned on the current blocking layer; and a first insulating groove and a second insulating groove which are positioned so as to face each other with the passive optical waveguide therebetween.

Wavelength tunable laser

Provided herein is an external-cavity type wavelength tunable laser including gain medium configured to generate an optical signal and amplify the generated optical signal based on a bias current applied; an external reflector configured to be coupled optically with the gain medium; a second thermistor provided on the side of the gain medium and configured to measure a temperature of the gain medium; a first thermistor provided on the external reflector and configured to measure a temperature of the external reflector; and a thermoelectric cooler configured to transfer generated heat based on the temperatures measured by the first and second thermistors.

Tunable light source

Disclosed is a wavelength tunable laser apparatus, including: a first substrate configured to reflect inflow laser light, and tune a wavelength of the reflected laser light; and a second substrate configured to adjust a gain of the laser light input from the first substrate, reflect a specific wavelength of the laser light, and adjust a phase of oscillated laser light, in which the first substrate and the second substrate are formed in a single package form.

Coherent wavelength tunable laser apparatus

Provided is a frequency-tunable terahertz light source device. The frequency-tunable terahertz light source device satisfies a Littrow diffraction condition at a wavelength and simultaneously satisfies a Littman-Metcalf diffraction condition at another wavelength using a double diffraction grating having two grating periods. Thus, oscillations simultaneously occur at the two different wavelengths, such that a terahertz wave can be stably generated by beating of the two oscillation wavelengths. In addition, the frequency-tunable terahertz light source device can readily change a frequency up to several terahertz and can be fabricated in a small size.
