Provided are an active droplet generating apparatus capable of controlling a droplet size, a method of controlling a droplet size using the same, and a self-diagnosis apparatus for diagnosing generation of a droplet, the active droplet generating apparatus including: a disposable microchannel upper plate; a multifunctional lower plate separated from the disposable microchannel upper plate and configured to be permanently used separately from the disposable microchannel upper plate; a functional polymeric film provided on a lower surface of the upper plate; a negative pressure forming means; and a flow velocity control device configured to adjust the droplet size to a desired size by receiving, by feedback, the voltage value measured by the droplet measuring electrode and controlling flow velocities of the oil and the sample, thereby controlling the droplet size in a feedback control manner by quickly and accurately measuring the droplet size using a capacitance impedance technique.

The present invention relates to none return to zero (NRZ) modulation method. The NRZ optical modulation is performed by combining a clock signal and NRZ data at a sending end and signal distortion capable of being generated when the clock signal and the NRZ data are combined is optimized by controlling the magnitude and phase of the clock signal. At the receiving end, the clock signal is extracted by performing narrow band band-pass filtering of the detected optical signal transmitted from a transmitter and data is recovered using the clock signal. Therefore, a receiver structure for clock extraction is simpler, an error rate of data recovery is lower by clearly extracting the clock signal, and transmission distance of the optical signal is longer.

An apparatus and method for monitoring an optical signal are provided. In the apparatus, a polarization adjusting unit converts the state of polarization of an optical signal. A polarization beam splitter splits the optical signal into a first polarization component and a second polarization component perpendicular to each other. An optical intensity measuring unit measures the optical intensity of the first polarization component. A feedback control unit controls the polarization adjusting unit so that the first and second polarization components are aligned to the two axes of the polarization beam splitter. A scrambler scrambles the optical signal input to the transmission optical fiber. According to the apparatus and method, optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) can be measured accurately.

Provided are a polarization mode dispersion (PMD) compensator and method for automatically and rapidly compensating PMD occurring in an optical transmission fiber in a high-speed optical transmission system. The polarization mode dispersion compensator includes a separator and a differential time delay remover. The separator aligns orthogonal first and second polarization components of a received optical signal with respect to two orthogonal axes of a polarization beam splitter using optical signal information output via a second path of a first path and the second path of the two outputs of the polarization beam splitter, splits the first and second polarization components, and transmits the first polarization component via the first path and the second polarization component via the second path. The differential time delay remover receives the first and second polarization components that have been split to remove a differential time delay between the first and second polarization components.

The ink-jet print head is fabricated using an electrolytic polishing process, thereby achieving an accurate and inexpensive fabrication.
