A laundry treating device is disclosed, which includes a cabinet that defines an exterior appearance of the device, a tub installed in the cabinet, a lower water holding part recessed in a lower portion of the tub to form a predetermined space, and a water drain hose connected with a side surface of the lower water holding part. The laundry treating device is capable of providing a sufficient water drain height, with improved inner space utilization.

A laundry treating device includes two separate laundry washing mechanisms. Methods of controlling such a laundry treating device include steps for supplying water to a first tub provided in the first laundry treating device and to a second tub provided in the second laundry treating device. The water can be supplied to the two tubs simultaneously or separately. Also, the water supply steps can be alternated. Further individual hot and cold water supply steps can include simultaneously or sequentially supplying the hot and cold water.

The door opening and closing device reduces noise and impact generated by the opening and closing of the doors, allowing a user to open and close the doors more softly and smoothly.

A steam generator includes a water chamber for holding water, the water chamber having a heater mounted thereto for heating the water, a steam chamber for holding steam generated as the water is heated, a water supply line for supplying the water to the water chamber, and a steam discharge line for discharging steam from the steam chamber, wherein the water chamber has a vertical direction length relatively greater than a horizontal direction length and the steam chamber has a horizontal direction length relatively greater than the horizontal length of the water chamber. A drum is rotatably mounted in the cabinet and a steam generator is provided outside the drum to supply steam to the drum, where the steam generator includes a water chamber to hold water, the water chamber having a heater mounted thereto for heating the water. The steam chamber is provided above the water chamber to hold steam generated as the water is heated, where the steam chamber has a steam discharge opening for discharging the steam, where the steam discharge opening is provided with a separator for isolating a steam discharge area from other areas and where the water chamber has a vertical direction length relatively greater than a horizontal direction length.

An exercise machine is provided. The exercise machine includes a support defining a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction, a first motion unit coupled to the support to provide a combined translational and pivotal movement of the first motion unit in the transverse direction, a second motion unit coupled to the first motion unit to provide one of a translational movement and a pivotal movement of the second motion unit in the longitudinal direction, and a driving source configured to impart movement to the first and second motion units.

A driving unit for a washing machine, and method for controlling the same. The driving unit includes a bearing housing fixedly secured to an outer tub. A motor is mounted on the bearing housing. A ring gear shaft is rotatably mounted to the bearing housing and is coupled to an inner tub. A carrier shaft is rotatably mounted in the ring gear shaft, with a driving shaft rotatably mounted in the carrier shaft. The driving shaft is coupled to the motor. A reduction gear is positioned between the ring gear shaft and the carrier shaft to reduce a speed of the ring gear shaft. A one directional holding device that holds the carrier shaft when the driving shaft rotates in a first direction, and holds two of the carrier shaft, the ring gear shaft, and the driving shaft when the driving shaft rotates in a second direction.
