A dental surface tracer includes a probe with a tip that can be moved to trace a given dental surface, including a mounting device for mounting the tracer to a stable reference location and defining a base plane; a first plurality of links which are substantially coplanar and define a plane of movement; the links being pivotably attached to the mounting device so that the plane of movement makes a variable angle with the base plane; a distal one of the first plurality of links being movable in two dimensions within the plane of movement; circuitry for generating electrical signals representative of movements of the probe tip, as a function exclusively of movements of the first plurality of links; a dental handpiece supporting the probe; and a second plurality of links which hold the handpiece and are attached to the first plurality of links; the second plurality of links holding the probe tip at all times at a fixed location in the plane of movement with respect to the distal link of the first plurality of links; and permitting the handpiece to move about three axes without moving the probe tip from the fixed location. The entire tracer exclusive of the handpiece is sized to be accommodated within the human mouth.

Contact digitizer, particularly for dental applications

Periodontal analysis apparatus includes a probe member having a tip, a probe housing having a guide channel in which the probe member is disposed for reciprocating movement with the tip of the probe member extending from the channel, force applying means for reciprocating the probe member in the housing, and transducer means in the housing for monitoring motion of the probe member and sensing perturbations in probe motion caused by the CEJ and providing output signals indicative thereof.

Analysis system

A humidity indicator with a housing having mounted therein a sensing element that changes dimensionally in response to humidity variations. A flexible diaphragm is captively held within the housing and is moved by dimensional changes of the sensing element. An intermediate plate with a cavity forms a reservoir on the flexible diaphragm for a transduction fluid. An adjustable member received within the sensing element contacts a portion of the flexible diaphragm bounding the reservoir for initial calibration of the humidity indicator. A dial and cover assemblage having an internal capillary groove is mounted on the intermediate plate, a port interconnecting the reservoir and capillary groove. The transduction fluid within the reservoir flows into the capillary groove and provides an indication of the percent of relative humidity.
