A method includes receiving, by a control plane (CP) from an application function (AF), a traffic influence routing rule comprising a service address representing a destination address of a route to an application server, the traffic influence routing rule specifying a breakout rule for packets of a communicating device addressed to the application server; storing, by the CP, the traffic influence routing rule in a policy control function (PCF); and generating, by the CP, a traffic filter for packets of at least one traffic flow associated with the communicating device, the traffic filter directing packets of the at least one traffic flow that are addressed to the application server to the service address, the traffic filter being generated in accordance with the traffic influence routing rule.

An embodiment method for session handling for a connection between an UE and a network includes establishing, at a first distributed EPC, user and IP sessions over the connection through the first distributed EPC. The first distributed EPC includes a first PGW at which the IP session is anchored. The method also includes holding original IP resources and releasing original connection resources for the sessions at the first distributed EPC when the UE moves beyond the first distributed EPC to a second distributed EPC. The method then establishes a tunnel between the first PGW and a second PGW for the second distributed EPC. The tunnel utilizes the original IP resources and new connection resources at the second distributed EPC. The method then routes data from the tunnel, through the first PGW, and to the network.

A communications signal is received from a network to initiate a call to a mobile station within the wireless communications system. Next, a determination is made as to whether the mobile station is provisioned to receive calling party names in response to receiving the communications signal. A calling party name is either identified using a database located within the wireless communications system or the calling party name is received as part of the initial call setup signal. Then, the calling party name is sent to the mobile station over the air interface in response to identifying the calling party name.
