A server system generates and transfers Precision Time Protocol (PTP) synch requests for delivery to a PTP clock server and responsively receives PTP synch responses transferred by the PTP clock server. The server system processes the PTP synch responses to determine PTP clock phase error data for the PTP clock server. The server system compares the PTP clock phase error data to a historical phase error threshold for the PTP clock server. If the PTP clock phase error data does not exceed the historical phase error threshold, then the server system updates the historical phase error threshold for the PTP clock server based on the PTP clock phase error data. If the PTP clock phase error data exceeds the historical phase error threshold, then the server system generates an indication that the PTP clock server comprises a malicious PTP node.

Identification of malicious precise time protocol (PTP) nodes

A data communication network controls the amounts of virtual network elements it uses. A control system processes user data packets from multiple wireless base stations to determine amounts of user data packet tunnels for a plurality of Quality-of-Service (QoS) levels. The control system processes the amounts of the user data packet tunnels for the QoS levels to identify a target amount of virtual packet gateways to serve the user data packet tunnels. A virtual network element system implements the target amount of the virtual packet gateways to serve the user data packet tunnels at the QoS levels with the virtual packet gateways.

Control of long term evolution (LTE) virtual network elements based on radio network tunnels

A wireless mesh network is configured. Each node is configured to function as either a gateway node or a relay node. To configure itself as a gateway node, an access node selects an SSID for each of its wireless interfaces that indicates it is an access node. When a relay access node is configuring itself, it scans for the SSIDs of available networks. The SSIDs of the mesh network are selected to indicate the number of other access points between a given access node and a direct wired connection (which is zero in the case of a gateway node.) The relay access node connects to the network having an SSID that indicates the fewest number of hops between itself and a direct wired connection. The SSID that is broadcast by the relay access node indicates the number of other access points between itself and a direct wired connection.

Methods for wirelessly connecting a small cell to a grandmaster timing device are disclosed. The methods can include identifying one or more grandmaster timing devices and wirelessly requesting an IP address to enable a small cell to connect to a grandmaster timing device for time synchronization. The methods may further include selecting a grandmaster timing device based on a predetermined preference order that includes a relative preference level for different types of grandmaster timing devices.

Method for a small cell to wirelessly connect to a grandmaster timing device

An LTE network, having a plurality of base stations and S-GWs, processes GTP packets to determine an amount of GTP tunnels between the base stations and the S-GWs gateways. The LTE network processes the amount of GTP tunnels to determine a target amount of LTE P-GWs to serve the base stations. If the target amount of the LTE P-GWs is greater than a current amount of the LTE P-GWs, then an additional amount of virtual LTE P-GWs is implemented to serve the base stations. If the target amount of the LTE P-GWs is less than the current amount of the LTE P-GWs, then an extra amount of the virtual LTE P-GWs that serve the base stations are removed.

Disclosed herein are methods and systems for routing signaling traffic. One embodiment takes the form of a method that involves a networking device determining that a level of signaling traffic intended for a group of one or more destinations is greater than a threshold level, and responsive to the signaling traffic being greater than the threshold level, the networking device lowering a priority assigned to signaling traffic intended for the group of one or more destinations. The networking device may output the signaling traffic intended for the group of one or more destinations with the lowered priority.

Methods and systems for routing signaling traffic

A communication system for providing an accurate timing signal and synchronization information is described herein. The communication system comprises a Precision Time Protocol (PTP) server, a Global Positioning System (GPS), a pseudowire device, and a PTP client. The PTP client receives a time of day data and frequency information from the PTP server, receives a timing signal from the GPS, synchronizes the time of day data and timing signal to create synchronized a time of day signal, and provides the synchronized time of day signal to the pseudowire device. The pseudowire device processes the synchronized time of day signal and the frequency information to perform a time-division multiplexing signal to Ethernet signal synchronized conversion.

Method and apparatus for allocating bandwidth in a virtual channel connection. The number of fax calls expected in a trunk group is divided by the number of DS0s in the trunk group and multiplied by the number of DS0s in a subset of the trunk group. The result equals the number of fax call circuits for the subset. The number of voice call circuits for the subset equals the number of DS0s in the subset minus the number of fax call circuits for the subset. The number of fax call circuits is multiplied by the full DS0 bandwidth. The number of voice call circuits is multiplied by the bandwidth per voice call. The total bandwidth for the subset equals the bandwidth for fax calls plus the bandwidth for voice calls. These steps are repeated for other subsets entering an interface to determine the total bandwidth needed by the VCC.
