A method and apparatus used in communications devices for associating images with data is described. The method includes the steps of comparing data associated with a plurality of images with data associated with a record and linking an image from the plurality of images to the record if at least a portion of the data associated with the image matches at least a portion of the data associated with the record. The apparatus includes a memory for storing images and records and data associated with the images and records, a processor coupled to the memory for comparing the data associated with the records and data associated with a plurality of images, and a display coupled to the controller for displaying the image if at least a portion of the data associated with the image matches at least a portion of the data associated with the record.

Method and apparatus for associating images with data

An electronic device includes display control logic for adjusting video settings of the electronic device in order to improve the display of portable media player files on the electronic device. The video settings may include picture settings for a display subsystem of the electronic device, video processing methods stored within a processor of the electronic device, and expansion ratios for images received from the portable media player. A method of operating the electronic device may include acquiring media file data, such as the expansion ratio and file type, from the portable media player and using the data to determine the video settings.

Apparatus and method for adjustment of video settings

A method and apparatus enables a user to assign a given key on an input device to any specific device on a data bus network connected to the apparatus, and thereby enables the user to quickly select the specific device for control using the given key. According to an exemplary embodiment, the method includes steps of enabling a user to assign a key on an input device of the apparatus to a device on the data bus network that is indirectly connected to the apparatus, and enabling the user to select the device for control responsive to an input of the assigned key.

Method and apparatus for selecting devices on a data bus

A digital television signal receiver () processes a digital television signal and auxiliary information contained in the digital television signal regardless of whether the auxiliary information is analog auxiliary information () or digital auxiliary information () and produces a television display signal () suitable for displaying the processed auxiliary information. In the case of the auxiliary information being closed caption information, the digital television signal receiver extracts and processes digital closed captioning information according to standard EIA-708 or extracts and processes analog closed caption information according to standard EIA-608. The television signal processing receiver thus allows the user the option of selecting a fallback method of obtaining captioning for a digital program signal if the digital program signal does not include digital closed captioning. Thus, if a digital television signal does not include digital closed caption information, the digital television signal receiver automatically processes any analog auxiliary information and provides a television signal having closed caption information suitable for display.
