The present disclosure relates to cement compositions including Portland cement and volcanic ash. An exemplary cement composition includes about 10 wt % to about 85 wt % of Portland cement, and about 10% by weight of cement (BWOC) to about 70% BWOC of volcanic ash.

Described is a method for quantifying and tracking an amine-based shale inhibitor in a drilling fluid through UV-visible spectroscopy. A correlation is determined between varying concentrations of an amine-based shale inhibitor in a water-based drilling fluid sample and an ultraviolet (UV)-visible absorption intensity. A calibration plot is generated based on the correlations. Samples of a circulating drilling fluid having an unknown concentration of amine-based shale inhibitor are obtained. Using the calibration plot, the concentration of amine-based shale inhibitor in the samples of the circulating drilling fluid is estimated.

Methods for quantifying and tracking amine-based shale inhibitors in drilling fluids

Compositions may include a calcium lignosulfonate salt having a chemical structure (I), wherein a total number of syringyl groups is 2 to 10. The compositions may further include an alcohol, an aldehyde, and water. Cement slurries may include a lignosulfonate-based cement dispersant including a calcium lignosulfonate salt having a chemical structure (I), an alcohol, an aldehyde, and water, wherein a total number of syringyl groups in the chemical structure (I) is 2 to 10. The cement slurries may further include a cement and water. Methods may include introducing a cement slurry into a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation, wherein the cement slurry comprises a lignosulfonate-based cement dispersant, a cement, and water, and allowing the cement slurry to set to a concrete in a downhole zone of interest.

Compositions and methods for branched calcium lignosulfonate cement dispersants

Methods for making and using an invert-emulsion drilling fluid, and the invert-emulsion drilling fluid are provided. An exemplary invert-emulsion drilling fluid includes a C-36 dimer diamine dihydrochloride salt (CDDH), an aqueous solvent, a non-aqueous solvent, an emulsifier, and calcium chloride.

A method for mitigating loss circulation zones in a wellbore is provided. The method includes synthesizing a carbamate from an amine-curing agent, and the carbamate is mixed with an epoxy resin from the loss control composition. The loss control composition is pumped into a wellbore with a loss circulation zone, wherein the loss control composition flows into the loss circulation zone. The carbamate of the loss control composition is allowed to decompose at wellbore temperatures, wherein the carbamate releases COgas and the amine-curing agent. The COgas foams the epoxy resin, expanding the epoxy resin to fill voids in the loss circulation zone, and the amine-curing agent cures the foamed epoxy resin, forming a loss control material that seals the loss circulation zone.

Lost circulation material (LCM) compositions may include a resin; an emulsifier selected from the group consisting of ethoxylated phenol, sodium salt of modified tall oil fatty amide, carboxylic acid terminated fatty polyamide, modified amidoamine, tall oil fatty acid, oxidized tall oil fatty amidoamine, ether carboxylic acid, and combinations thereof; a crosslinker, a cementitious and/or weighting agent; a retarder; a dispersant; and a silicon-based defoamer. The LCM compositions may have a thickening time of from about 3 hours than about 6 hours by reaching a Bearden consistency of 100 Bc. Methods of eliminating or reducing lost circulation in a lost circulation zone from a well may include introducing these LCM compositions into the well.

Loss circulation materials for high pressure formations

The present disclosure concerns a cement dispersant for cement compositions wherein the cement dispersant is a polynaphthalene sulfonate salt having a weight average molecular weight of from 2500 g/mol to 3000 g/mol. The cement compositions are of from 10 weight percent to 70 weight percent of a cement precursor based on the total weight of the cement composition, from 5 weight percent to 70 weight percent water based on the total weight of the cement composition, and from 0.001 percent by weight of cement (BWOC) to 1.0 percent BWOC the cement dispersant. The cement dispersant provides improved rheological properties, allowing for good cement dispensing and increased presence of weighting agents.

Geopolymer cement slurries, cured geopolymer cements, and methods of making cured geopolymer cement and methods of using geopolymer cement slurries are provided. The geopolymer cement slurry comprises Saudi Arabian volcanic ash, an aqueous solution, NaSiO, NaOH, and a resin. The Saudi Arabian volcanic ash comprises SO, CaO, SiO, AlO, FeO, MgO, and KO.

Lost circulation material (LCM) compositions may include an epoxy resin, an emulsifier comprising a polyaminated fatty acid, water, a crosslinker, and an optional cementitious and/or weighting agent. These LCM compositions may have a density of from about 63 pounds per cubic foot (pcf) to about 99 pcf and may be capable of being injected through a drill bit of a drill string into a lost circulation zone in wellbores. Corresponding methods of eliminating or reducing lost circulation in a lost circulation zone from a well may include introducing these LCM compositions into the well.

Emulsified resin-based loss circulation materials for low pressure formations

A method of reducing lost circulation includes introducing a lost circulation solution comprising Saudi Arabian volcanic ash, a curing agent, and a resin into a subsurface formation through a wellbore, wherein the Saudi Arabian volcanic ash comprises SO, CaO, SiO, AlO, FeO, MgO, and KO; and allowing the lost circulation solution to thicken within the subsurface formation, thereby forming a barrier between the subsurface formation and the wellbore to reduce lost circulation.

Methods of reducing lost circulation in a wellbore

A method includes introducing an epoxy resin system to a wellbore defect in a wellbore. The epoxy resin system comprises a polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) epoxy resin with at least one reactive group and a curing agent. The method includes maintaining the epoxy resin system in the wellbore such that a cured epoxy resin system product forms in the wellbore defect.

Nanosized dendrimeric epoxy resin to prevent casing-casing annulus pressure issues

A sulfate-resistant cement composition may contain calcium magnesium aluminum oxide silicate, brownmillerite, dolomite, periclase, and calcium aluminum oxide. The composition may contain the calcium aluminum oxide in an amount in the range of 0.01 to 2.0 wt. %. The composition may contain the brownmillerite in an amount of the range of 20 to 30 wt. %.

Cements for oil and gas cementing applications

Lost circulation material (LCM) compositions for sealing lost circulation zones in wellbores may include an epoxy resin, a curing agent, an amide accelerator, and calcium carbonate having an average particle size of from 1,000 microns to 10,000 micron. The epoxy resin includes at least one of 2,3-epoxypropyl-o-tolyl ether, C12-C14 alkyl glycidyl ether, 1,6-hexanediol diglycidyl ether, butyl glycidyl ether, or cyclohexanedimethanol diglycidyl ether. The epoxy resin can also include bisphenol-A-epichlorohydrin epoxy resin. Methods of treating a lost circulation zone of a wellbore include injecting the LCM compositions into the lost circulation zone and curing the LCM compositions, where the LCM compositions include an epoxy resin, a curing agent, an amide accelerator, and calcium carbonate having an average particle size of from 1,000 microns to 10,000 microns.
