Systems and methods for facilitating users to create multi-faceted social media objects (e.g., text, images, videos, etc.) with one public facing front side and multiple secondary facets that have optional privacy controls are provided. Users can scroll down a feed and perform gestures on each social media object to transition them to flipsides to view optionally private content in an intuitive manner. Graphical animations for transitioning from the front side of the social media object to the secondary facets can be simultaneously viewed within the feed interface. This enables a user to create a publicly visible social media object and essentially hide a message on the flipside(s) for selected other users to access. The hidden message may be contextual to the public side.

System and method for creating and transitioning to multiple facets of a social media object in a social network

A drive circuit for a MEMS device, an integrated circuit having a plurality of MEMS devices and drivers, a method of operating the drive circuit and a method of manufacturing the integrated circuit. In one embodiment, the drive circuit includes: (1) an electrode driver and (2) a switching network, coupled to an output of said electrode driver that: (a) in a first configuration, couples said output to a first electrode of an axis of said MEMS device and grounds an opposing second electrode of said axis of said MEMS device and (b) in a second configuration, couples said output to said second electrode and grounds said first electrode.

Drive circuit for MEMS device and method of operation thereof

A heater system for heating an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) of a fiber optic communication system operable in an environment. The heater system includes a pump laser for providing optical power to an erbium fiber in the EDFA. The pump laser is cooled by a thermoelectric cooler (TEC) when a predetermined maximum temperature is reached to maintain the temperature of the laser below the maximum temperature value. The temperature of the laser is sensed by a temperature sensor and is conveyed to a control circuit for generating a control signal. A heater unit is thermally connected to the erbium fiber and is controlled by the control signal in the event that the sensed temperature falls below a predetermined minimum value to maintain the temperature of the fiber above the minimum temperature value. A switch is connected between the control circuit, the TEC and the heater to automatically direct current to either the heater or the TEC depending on the sensed temperature.

Retrofit heater for erbium fiber in an erbium-doped fiber amplifier

A system and method for selectively amplifying an optical signal depending upon the amplification needs of an optical system at one point in time. The optical amplifier has an adjustable gain that can be controlled by a remote systems controller. As a result, if an optical path in an optical system is changed, the needed degree of amplification associated with that new optical path can be provided for by adjusting the optical amplifier. The output at the end of the optical system can therefore be kept within a predetermined operational range regardless to how the optical signal is switched within the optical system.

Interactive optical fiber amplifier, system and method

A laser module uses series connected thermoelectric coolers to maintain lasers at the proper operating temperature. A variable resistance associated with the thermoelectric cooler is adjusted to maintain the current through the cooler at the proper value.

A data communication method and apparatus includes an integral bit error rate test system. The system is adapted to receive digital data signals to be transmitted over a communication link and includes a transmitter for transmitting the data signals onto the link. A test signal pattern generator generates a determinable pattern of digital bit test signals which are insertable into an input of the transmitter in place of the digital data signals. A receiver is coupled to the link for receiving the bit test signals and for comparing the received pattern of the bit test signals to the determinable pattern. The bit error rate is computed from the number of bit differences between the transmitted test signals and the determinable pattern.

Integral bit error rate test system for serial data communication links

A method is disclosed for determining the byte error rate (ByER) of a received digital signal. In particular, a local byte clock signal is generated and a complement of the received signal (or clock signal) is compared to the clock signal (or received signal). When both are the same logic value, as determined by a series of logic gates, an error is deemed to have occurred. The total number of errors N over a predetermined period of time T are then counted. The byte error rate is then determined from the relation ##EQU1##
