Drones are engineered with sensors for use in insurance applications. After locating an object of interest, a drone performs an investigation by probing the object of interest. Sensors receive feedback from the object of interest. An electronic fingerprint of the drone is produced. Afterward, perils are computed based on the feedback and the fingerprint of the drone is used in insuring the object of interest. The act of probing includes thumping, drumming, or radiating ultrasound waves against the object of interest. The sensors can be turned off when they are within a geographic zone of prohibited operations.

Peril analysis is performed for carsharing insurance, i.e., peer-to-peer vehicle sharing insurance. The peril analysis is used to calculate the rate of and/or price insurance for carsharing. A renter may purchase insurance for carsharing (fully, as a supplement or going above and beyond a standard offering, or filling a gap between the minimal level a carsharing company provides and what a driver desires to provide for himself and vehicle's occupants, including comprehensive, collision, or a combination) using a mobile device, an embedded device, a vehicle, or an in-dash unit in the vehicle.

Automated claims adjustment is engineered to receive submission of two-dimensional data or three-dimensional data from a structured-light scan and other pieces of information directly via a mobile device. Upon receiving sufficient information to open a claim, automated claims adjustment and settlement processes are executed aiding and guiding a claimant. This reduces the time involved by the claimant in waiting for a claims adjuster to manually review a specific case file.
