A sorbent device based on a porous membrane bag (e.g., porous propylene membrane bag) encapsulated alkaline-modified zeolite (e.g., alkaline-treated USY zeolite). A process for removing heavy metals, such as Cd(II), Cr(III), and Pb(II) from an aqueous solution or an industrial wastewater samples with the sorbent device is provided. A method for preparing the alkaline-modified zeolite is also described.

Method for isolating a heavy metal ion from an aqueous solution

A method of removing an organic pollutant from water that includes contacting contaminated water with a filtration membrane including sorbent particles of a spent fluid catalytic cracking catalyst (FCC) that includes a porous aluminosilicate material, and a carbonaceous material disposed on a surface of the porous aluminosilicate material, and a polymer support, to form a contaminated membrane, and collecting a purified water. The sorbent particles include 8.0-50.0 atom % carbon, based on a total number of atoms of sorbent particles, and the organic pollutant is at least one selected from the group including a dye, a phenol, a polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon, an herbicide, a pesticide, and a persistent organic pollutant.

Method for removing heavy metal ions from water

An adsorbent and a method of preparing the adsorbent are described. The adsorbent includes a 2-anthracene ammonium magnetic ionic liquid (MIL), and a [FeCl]or a [CoCl]ion. The adsorbents, 2-anthracene ammonium tetrachloroferrate (III) ([2AA] FeCl) and 2-anthracene ammonium trichlorocobaltate (II) ([2AA] CoCl), are prepared by protonation of 2-aminoanthracene, followed by complexation with FeCl/CoCl. The adsorbent of the present disclosure is effective in removing contaminants such as heavy metal ions from an aqueous system in a cost-efficient and selective manner.

A method of making a hydrodesulfurization catalyst having nickel and molybdenum sulfides deposited on a support material containing mesoporous silica that is optionally modified with zirconium. The method of making the hydrodesulfurization catalyst involves a single-step calcination and reduction procedure. The utilization of the hydrodesulfurization catalyst in treating a hydrocarbon feedstock containing sulfur compounds (e.g. dibenzothiophene, 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene) to produce a desulfurized hydrocarbon stream is also provided.

A method for dry reformation of methane (DRM) includes introducing a H-containing feed gas stream into a reactor, including a nickel-containing fibrous silica zinc oxide (Ni/FSZ) catalyst, passing the H-containing feed gas stream through the reactor to contact the H-containing feed gas stream with particles of the Ni/FSZ catalyst at a temperature of from 500 to 900 degrees Celsius (° C.) to form a reduced catalyst; terminating the introduction of the H-containing feed gas stream and introducing and passing a mixed feed gas stream including CHand COthrough the reactor to contact the mixed feed gas stream with the reduced catalyst at a temperature of from 500 to 1000° C. thereby converting at least a portion of the CHand COto Hand CO; and regenerating the Ni/FSZ catalyst particles to form a regenerated catalyst and producing a residue gas stream leaving the reactor.

Fibrous silica zinc oxide-supported nickel catalyst for dry reforming of methane and methods of preparation thereof

A functionalized silica sorbent is described. The sorbent comprises mesoporous silica nanoparticles having a surface functionalized with a conjugated system comprising an azole and a phenyl. The surface may be functionalized by a Cu-catalyzed click reaction. The nanoparticles have an average particle size of 10-80 nm, and may be used to adsorb phenolic contaminants from aqueous solutions.

Urea and amine comprising sol-gel hybrid coatings have been developed for numerous applications, including capillary microextraction-high performance liquid chromatographic analysis from aqueous samples. A fused silica capillary may be coated from the inside with surface bonded coating material and may be created by in-situ sol-gel reaction(s). Urea-functionalized coatings can be immobilized on the inner surface of a capillary by condensing silanol groups of capillary and sol-solution. Urea functionalized, sol-gel coated capillaries may be installed, e.g., in HPLC manual injection ports, and optionally pre-concentrated analytes including phenols, ketones, aldehydes, and/or polyaromatic hydrocarbons, from highly polar to non-polar, maybe analyzed by online extraction and high-performance liquid chromatographic. Such coatings may achieve sensitivities with lower detection limits (S/N=3) of 0.10 ng/mL to 14.29 ng/mL, with reproducibilities of &#x3c;12.0% RSD (n=3), or &#x3c;10.0% RSD (n=3) by exchanging the capillary of the same size.

Urea-functionalized sol-gel

Yttria containing hybrid organic-inorganic sol-gels may be used in coatings for capillary microextraction, optionally hyphenated to online HPLC analysis. The sol-gel reaction mixture can use an yttrium trialkoxyalkoxide, such as yttrium trimethoxyethoxide, and a [bis(hydroxyalkyl)-amino-alkyl]-terminated polydialkyl/arylsiloxane, such as [bis(hydroxyethyl)-amine] (BHEA)-terminated polydimethylsiloxane, that can undergo hydrolysis and polycondensation, to form coating materials. Capillaries coated with such sol-gels can have improved extraction efficiency compared, e.g., to pure yttria-based coatings. The CME-HPLC can analyze water samples containing analytes of varied polarity, with excellent extraction of amides, phenols, alcohols, ketones, aldehydes, and polyaromatic hydrocarbons and detection limits ranging from 0.18 to 7.35 ng/mL (S/N=3). Such capillaries can exhibit solvent stability at pH 0 to 14, RSD % between 0.6 to 6.8% (n=3), at a preparative reproducibility RSD between 4.1 and 9.9%.

A method of preparing hydrodesulfurization catalysts having cobalt and molybdenum sulfide deposited on a support material containing mesoporous silica. The method utilizes a sulfur-containing silane that dually functions as a silica source and a sulfur precursor. The method involves an one-pot strategy for hydrothermal treatment and a single-step calcination and sulfidation procedure. The application of the hydrodesulfurization catalysts in treating a hydrocarbon feedstock containing sulfur compounds to produce a desulfurized hydrocarbon stream is also specified.
