This present disclosure describes a system and methods for encoding optimization in streaming multimedia. At least one method includes training an optimization engine to discover the optimal encoding settings for a specific type of content; a user playing video games or content on a computer, using streaming software to combine all or part of their computer session with their local camera feed, the streaming software retrieving a graphical overlay for insertion into the video, the streaming software encoding the video using encoder settings optimized to the video game or content being played, and the streaming software publishing the encoded video to one or more streaming services for viewers to consume.

System and method for video encoding optimization and broadcasting

Approaches for generating dynamic over-the-top (OTT) adjustable bit rate (ABR) representations of a video with a variable resolution and/or frame rate using on-the-fly (OTF) transcoding and assistance metadata. At an encoder located at a head-end, the encoder encodes a video stream at an initial bit rate and produces optimum representation (OpRep) metadata, which describes an optimum presentation for the video stream for each of a plurality of bit rates or the minimum bitrate below which a presentation becomes sub-optimal. The head-end transmits the encoded video stream and the OpRep metadata to a transcoder of a Content Delivery Network (CDN). The transcoder at the CDN uses the OpRep metadata to dynamically transcode the video stream in a preferred picture resolution and a preferred frame rate at a different bit rate than the initial bit rate using the OpRep metadata.

Dynamically managing an operation of a content delivery network (CDN) to address excessive load upon an upload link for updating data thereto and/or upon particular portions of the CDN. A network optimizer may receive bit rate utilization data that identifies a current bit rate amount being utilized by the upload link and what digital video data is being uploaded to the CDN thereon. The network optimizer may also receive, from an analytic server, consumption information about the current load being experienced throughout different regions of the CDN. The network optimizer analyses the bit rate utilization data and the consumption information to dynamically render any changes necessary to the bit rate utilization of the upload link and to the representations of digital video propagated to some or all portions of the CDN to ensure the load remains below a predetermined threshold in both the upload link and throughout the CDN.
