A multiplier sleeve has a releasable seat coupled to a dog within the slidable sleeve allows a single sized ball, dart, or plug to actuate several sliding sleeves. Upon actuation by properly sized ball the ball, slidable sleeve, seat, and dog move downward where the dog is no longer supported allowing the seat to move within the slidable sleeve to a point where the seat is no longer supported thereby releasing the ball. With the slidable sleeve moved downward the port or ports in the sliding sleeve is exposed. A staged port and piston assembly inserted into the ports maintain pressure within the tubular assembly to allow the ball to move through and actuate the targeted sliding sleeves.

The present invention relates to an inflow control device for controlling the flow of fluid into a tubular deployed in a wellbore comprising coupling between joints of tubulars. The inflow control device is mounted transversely through the coupling in any inflow can control devices the initial condition fluid flow between the exterior and interior of the tubular is prevented. An optical waveguide feedthrough assembly passes at least one optical waveguide through a bulk head, a sensor wall, or other feedthrough member. The optical waveguide feedthrough assembly comprises a cane-based optical waveguide that forms a glass plug sealingly disposed in a feedthrough housing. A seal fills an annular space between the glass plug and the housing. The seal may be energized by a fluid pressure in the housing to establish sealing engagement. Further, the seal may provide bidirectional sealing. The feedthrough assembly is operable in high temperature and high pressure environments.

A method and apparatus for sealing a tool for use in a wellbore is provided. The seal is configured to be disposed in a tool comprising a ported sliding sleeve and a ported housing. The tool may be actuable between a closed and an open position. The seal is configured so that one side of the seal acts as a flow restrictor to protect the other side of the seal from damage during actuation of the tool under pressurized conditions.

An expander tool for expanding a first tubular into a second surrounding tubular within a wellbore. The expander tool first comprises a body. Within the body is an expansion member capable of being actuated outwardly from the body when expansion of the first tubular is desired. In one aspect, the expander tool is a rotary expander tool, and the expansion members define a plurality of rollers. The expander tool further comprises at least one sensor for sensing a downhole condition during expansion of the tubular. The sensors in one aspect include at least one tool for sensing wall dimensions of the first tubular such as inner diameter or wall thickness. Examples include sonic logs, caliper logs, and electromagnetic wall thickness tools. A depth gauge may also be included. In one aspect, a data transmission device is provided between a surface server and the sensors downhole. In this way, the operator at the surface can monitor progress of the expansion operation downhole.

Expander tool for downhole use

The present invention provides apparatus and methods for completing a wellbore using expandable tubulars. In one aspect, the invention includes a tubular member with an expandable portion at a lower end constructed and arranged to be expanded into contact with a previously expanded liner. At an upper end of the tubular is a polish bore receptacle permitting the tubular to be tied back to the surface of the well with production tubing. In another aspect, the invention provides a method of completing a well comprising expanding a liner top into a cased wellbore to hang the liner and, thereafter running a tubular member into the wellbore.

Tie back and method for use with expandable tubulars

A first tubular is disposed coaxially within a portion of a second, larger tubular. A portion of the first tubular is expanded into frictional contact with the second tubular, thereby creating a liner and a hanger. In one embodiment, a pattern of grooves and profile cuts are formed in the surface of a portion of the first tubular body. The grooves in one aspect define a continuous pattern about the circumference of the tubular body which intersect to form a plurality of substantially identical shapes, such as diamonds. The grooves and profile cuts serve to improve the tensile strength of the tubular body. At the same time, the grooves and profile cuts allow for expansion of the tubular body by use of less radial force. The grooves and profile cuts further provide additional frictional support for hanging the expanded tubular onto the inner surface of a surrounding second tubular.

Expandable hanger and packer

An improved expansion assembly for an expander tool is provided. The expander tool is used to expand a surrounding tubular body within a wellbore. Accordingly, a method for expanding a surrounding tubular is also provided. The expansion assembly first comprises a piston disposed within a recess of the expander tool. The top surface of the piston closely receives a pad. The pad is held in close proximity to the top surface of the piston such that it does not rotate about a shaft. This arrangement reduces the geometric size of the expansion assembly, affording a larger inner diameter for the hollow bore of the expander tool itself. At least one reinforcement member is disposed on or within the pad to strengthen the pad during an expansion operation. The reinforcement member is fabricated from a durable material, and is arranged along the pad in the area of contact with the surrounding tubular during an expansion operation.

Expansion assembly for a tubular expander tool, and method of tubular expansion

The present invention provides an apparatus and method expanding a portion of a tubular. The expansion apparatus is run into a wellbore on a working string. The expansion apparatus first comprises a rotary expander for expanding an expandable tubular. The expansion apparatus further comprises a spline assembly for coupling the rotary expander to a motor disposed on the work string. The rotary expander and spline assembly have hollow bodies that allow them to encircle the work string and rotate relative thereto. The spline assembly comprises an inner sleeve and outer sleeve. The inner sleeve is attached to the motor and the outer sleeve is attached to the rotary expander. The inner and outer sleeves are coupled to each other using a spline and groove connection. The connection allows the rotary expander to be rotated by the motor, while at the same time, allow the rotary expander to move axially relative to the motor. The rotary expander comprises two rows of rollers for expansion against the tubular. The position of the rollers on the first row is skewed in one direction relative to the longitudinal axis. The rollers on the second row are skewed in an opposite direction. When actuated, the skew angle of the rollers will cause the expander tool to move axially. Because the rollers of the two rows are placed at opposing skew angles, alternating actuation between the two rows of rollers causes the expander to move in opposite axial directions during expansion.

An apparatus and method of creating a seal between two coaxial tubulars so as to create a hanger and a packer. A first tubular is disposed coaxially within a portion of a second, larger tubular. The apparatus and method optionally provides a pliable material fabricated within the grooves on the outer surface of the tubular body. In addition, carbide inserts are preferably interdisposed within the pattern of grooves, providing additional gripping means when the smaller diameter tubular body is expanded into the second tubular.

The present invention provides an expandable tubular having improved polished bore receptacle protection. The present invention further provides methods for completing a wellbore through the use of an expandable string of casing having improved polished bore receptacle protection. In one aspect, the invention includes a liner member having an expandable section, and a polished bore receptacle positioned below the expandable section. The expandable section is run into a wellbore, and is positioned to overlap with the bottom portion of a string of casing already set within the wellbore. The expandable section is then expanded into frictional engagement with the surrounding casing. The expandable section optionally includes at least one sealing member and at least one slip member on the outer surface. In one aspect, a transition section is provided between the expandable section and the polished bore receptacle. The transition section defines a sloped inner diameter which provides further protection for the sealing surfaces of the polished bore receptacle as tools, fluid, and tubulars are transited downhole through the polished bore receptacle.
