According to one embodiment, a process for applying an adhesive material onto a barrier sheet substrate is provided. The process includes providing an adhesive material having viscosity of at least about 10,000 centipoise at 250° F. The adhesive material is applied to a multitude of cavities on a surface of a first tool with a coater unit in close proximity to the surface. The adhesive material is transferred from the surface of the first tool to the substrate supported on a surface of a second tool and pressed against the surface of the first tool.

Method and apparatus for adhesive application to barrier sheet

A continuous process for making a pressure-sensitive adhesive is disclosed. A mixture comprising natural rubber having a Mooney viscosity of 85 to 100, a tackifier, a filler, and 0.1 to 5 wt. % of an added C-Cfatty acid based on the amount of mixture is masticated in a first section of a single- or twin-screw extruder. Mastication of the mixture continues in at least one subsequent extruder section in the presence of additional tackifier. The product is a homogeneous, reduced-viscosity pressure-sensitive adhesive. The minor proportion of added C-Cfatty acid aids mastication of the rubber and enables high throughput without addition of peptizers. Duct tapes made from the adhesives display improved adhesion to steel, better adhesion bond strength, and enhanced seven-day clean removability from even difficult substrates such as marble or ceramic tile.

Compositions and methods for making low thermal expansion ceramic bodies

A mixture for making a ceramic article includes a ceramic forming component, a liquid vehicle, a cellulosic binder, and a stabilizer comprising an acetate salt. The disclosure also provides a method of making the ceramic article including extruding the mixture to form a ceramic green body, drying the ceramic green body to remove at least a portion of the liquid vehicle, and optionally firing to form the ceramic article. The ceramic green body possesses excellent strength and excellent skin properties without increasing the organic load or the addition of hydrated clays.

Stabilizers for ceramic body extrusion

A method of reducing the defects in ceramic articles and precursors, particularly ceramic articles and precursors made using a batch composition containing an oil phase material. The method includes increasing the concentration of a water insoluble soap in the batch composition, which can increase the cohesive strength of the oil phase, leading to a reduction in the incidence of defects in the ceramic articles and precursors.

Methods for reducing defects in ceramic articles and precursors

A method of manufacturing a porous ceramic article is provided that includes injecting a gas into a precursor batch material. The gas is pressurized to a positive gauge pressure. Exemplary gasses that can be injected into the precursor batch material include at least one of nitrogen, helium, neon, argon, krypton, and xenon. Air can also be injected into the precursor batch material, including air in which at least a portion of COand/or Onaturally occurring in air has been removed.

Method of forming porous ceramic articles using inert gas

A batch mixture including ceramic-forming ingredients, a pore former, a binder comprising an ammonium salt of an alkylated cellulose binder, and a liquid vehicle, as defined herein. Also disclosed is a method for producing a ceramic precursor article as defined herein having excellent extrusion properties.

Alkylcellulose salt binder for green body manufacture

A method for producing a ceramic article comprising the steps of providing a plasticized ceramic precursor batch composition comprising an inorganic ceramic powder batch composition; a liquid vehicle; and an organic binder system comprising at least one organic lubricant grafted to a cellulose ether binder. An extruded green body can be formed from the plasticized ceramic precursor batch composition and subsequently fired under conditions effective to convert the extruded green body into a unitary ceramic article. Also provided are ceramic articles manufactured by the methods disclosed herein.

Method for forming a ceramic article using self lubricating binders

The present invention relates to a composition for coating optical fibers that includes a UV curable coating composition. The composition includes at least one component having at least one heterocyclic moiety capable of undergoing ring opening polymerization. The composition may also include at least one acrylate functional end group. The acrylate functional group may be on the same component as the heterocyclic moiety or on a second component. The cured composition has a Young's Modulus of at least about 100 MPa.
