Methods of preparing a dry powder blend co-coagulating conductive carbon black particles and fibrillizable polytetrafluoroethylene particles from an aqueous dispersion and drying the co-coagulate are described. Dry powders prepared by such methods and electrodes prepared from such powders are also described.

There is provided a system having an electronic device powered by at least one battery, a controller communicably coupled to at least one battery, wherein the controller is configured to: determine a state of charge of the at least one battery; and interrupt a function of the electronic device for at least one predefined time period based on the state of charge of the at least one battery, where the interruption is indicative of a state of charge of the at least one battery. There is also provided an electronic device for use in the system.

The composition has an O3 type structure.

High voltage cathode compositions for lithium-ion batteries

A rechargeable lithium-ion battery includes a positive electrode having a first capacity and a negative electrode having a second capacity that is less than the first capacity such that the battery has a negative-limited design. The negative electrode includes a lithium titanate active material. A liquid electrolyte that includes a lithium salt dissolved in at least one non-aqueous solvent a porous polymeric separator are located between the positive electrode and negative electrode. The separator is configured to allow lithium ions to flow through the separator.

Negative-limited lithium-ion battery

A rechargeable lithium-ion battery includes a positive electrode that includes a first current collector and a first active material. The battery also includes an electrolyte and a negative electrode that includes a second current collector and a second active material, where the second active material includes a lithium titanate material. The positive electrode has a first capacity and the negative electrode has a second capacity, the second capacity being less than the first capacity such that the rechargeable lithium-ion battery is negative-limited.

A method of producing Li[NiCoMn]Owherein 0.025&#x2266;x&#x2266;0.5 and 0.9&#x2266;y&#x2266;1.3. The method includes mixing [NiCoMn]OHwith LiOH or LiCOand one or both of alkali metal fluorides and boron compounds, preferably one or both of LiF and BO. The mixture is heated sufficiently to obtain a composition of Li[NiCoMn]Osufficiently dense for use in a lithium-ion battery cathode. Compositions so densified exhibit a minimum reversible volumetric energy characterized by the formula [1833-333x] measured in Wh/L.

Method of producing lithium ion cathode materials

Single-phase lithium-transition metal oxide compounds containing cobalt, manganese and nickel can be prepared by wet milling cobalt-, manganese-, nickel- and lithium-containing oxides or oxide precursors to form a finely-divided slurry containing well-distributed cobalt, manganese, nickel and lithium, and heating the slurry to provide a lithium-transition metal oxide compound containing cobalt, manganese and nickel and having a substantially single-phase O3 crystal structure. Wet milling provides significantly shorter milling times than dry milling and appears to promote formation of single-phase lithium-transition metal oxide compounds. The time savings in the wet milling step more than offsets the time that may be required to dry the slurry during the heating step.

Solid state synthesis of lithium ion battery cathode material

An electrode composition that includes a plurality of composite particles and a plurality of electrically conductive diluent particles admixed with the composite particles. Each of the composite particles includes an electrochemically active metal particle and an electrically conductive layer partially covering the particle. In one aspect, the layer is present in an amount no greater than about 75 wt. % of the composite, while in another aspect the layer is present in an amount no greater than about 75 vol. % of the composite. Also featured are lithium ion batteries featuring electrodes made from these compositions.
