An indoor wireless communication system with integrated pager functionality for receiving and routing external pager messages to recipient end terminals, such as wired or wireless telephones, without the need for a separate pager device. The indoor wireless communication system includes a system controller for receiving external pager messages and extracting external pager identification of the recipient pager device from the header of the external pager message. A database stored in the system controller is used to relate the external pager identification of the recipient pager to an internal terminal identification that is recognized by the indoor wireless communication system. The external pager message is then transmitted to the recipient end terminal based on the related internal terminal identification. Accordingly, the subscribers to an indoor wireless communication system are able to receive external pager messages without having to carry a separate pager device in addition to the wireless telephone.

Telephone communication system with integrated pager functionality

An alphanumeric messaging system for exchanging alphanumeric messages over a communications connection. The alphanumeric messaging system comprises a communications circuitry, an alphanumeric telephone, and a switching system. The communications circuitry is configured to originate a communications connection in response to receiving a stimulus and exchange alphanumeric messages over the communications connection. The alphanumeric telephone configured to originate a call connection and exchange the alphanumeric messages over the call connection. The switching system is configured to establish the communications connection and the call connection and exchange the alphanumeric messages for the alphanumeric telephone and the communications circuitry.

Alphanumeric messaging system

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for transmitting a synchronization beacon from a wireless base station to a wireless terminal in a wireless communication network installed in a building. The wireless network comprises a private branch exchange (PBX) connected to a wireless fixed base station (WFB) having a plurality of cell antennae units (CAUs) connected thereto. In a first embodiment, the plurality of CAUs are located in a single cell of the wireless network and are configured to receive two synchronization beacons from the WFB. In a second embodiment, each CAU is located in a separate cell in the network and is configured to receive a single synchronization beacon from the WFB. The synchronization beacon(s) is/are managed by the WFB and WT to virtually eliminate loss of synchronization between the WFB and WT if the frequency-timeslot at which the beacon is transmitted is changed or if transmission of the beacon is temporarily discontinued. In addition, synchronization between the WFB and WT is also maintained when the WT is moved to another cell in the wireless network.

Method and apparatus for transmitting a synchronization beacon in a wireless communication network

A wireless terminal is disclosed that functions as both a telecommunications device and as a wireless test tool. Illustratively, the terminal comprises a first electro-acoustic transducer for converting a first acoustic signal into an outgoing signal; a wireless transmitter capable of transmitting the outgoing signal to a remote base station; a wireless receiver capable of receiving a plurality of incoming signals from the base station; a second electro-acoustic transducer for converting one of the plurality of incoming signals into a second acoustic signal; a visual display; and a terminal processor for determining a power level for each of the plurality of incoming signals and for contemporaneously displaying an indicium of the power level for each of the plurality of incoming signals onto the visual display.
