A system and method for dispense characterization is disclosed. According to particular embodiments of the dispense characterization system and method, volumes of dispensed liquids can be determined. In more particular embodiments, additional characteristics, and combinations of characteristics of a liquid dispensing event can be determined. Examples of additional characteristics that can be determined include the shape of the dispensing event, the velocity of the dispensing event, and the trajectory of the dispensing event. The dispense characterization system and method can be employed in automated biological sample analysis systems, and are particularly suited for monitoring liquid reagent dispensing events that deliver liquid reagents to a surface of a microscope slide holding a biological sample.

System and method for dispense characterization

A system and method for dispense characterization is disclosed. According to particular embodiments of the dispense characterization system and method, volumes of dispensed liquids can be determined. A specimen processing system is capable of processing specimens carried on slides. The specimen processing system can sequentially deliver slides and opposables to specimen processing stations. The specimen processing stations can use the opposables to apply a series of liquids to the specimens. The applied liquid can be moved along the slide using capillary action while the specimen processing stations control the processing temperatures.

Specimen processing systems and methods for aligning slides

A biological processing system includes a platform assembly for holding slides and a dispenser assembly with dispensers. The dispensers are sequentially positionable over specimen-bearing slides to enable dispensing of substances onto specimens. The dispensers include a filter device for filtering a processing substance such that a substantially precipitate-free filtrate is applied to the specimens. The dispenser includes a filter device positioned at least partially in a reservoir chamber. The filter device includes anti-clogging features to maintain desired performance.
