A fiber optic connector plug body (1) receives a ferrule (2) therewithin. The plug body (1) receives an internal body (5) in a snap fit to retain the ferrule (2) within the plug body (1). Two inwardly biased latch members (14) on the plug body (1) are received within a circumferential groove on the internal body. The resulting assembly is resistant to disassembly upon application of tensile and lateral forces to the internal body.

Captivated fiber optic connector

A fiber optic termination for incorporating within a fiber optic connector is capable of mechanical assembly which can preclude the use of adhesives for termination assembly. A metal plunger compresses a bullet having an aperture therethrough into a constriction causing the bullet to grip a fiber. A metal insert lines the interior of an alignment ferrule and engages the actuating plunger with an interference fit. The interference fit retains the plunger over time and over a broad operating temperature range. Dimples on the outer surface of the metal insert create pockets of engagement between the insert and the alignment ferrule that resist axial displacement of the insert relative to the alignment ferrule.

An overmolded alignment ferrule for an optical fiber connector having a high precision preformed precision portion and a lower precision overmolded body portion, the precision portion including an anti-displacement feature and a anti-flexural feature for preventing flexural, rotational or torsional movement of the precision portion relative the body portion. The overmolded alignment ferrule being formed by overmolding the body portion about the precision portion generally surrounding and embedding the anti-displacement features and the anti-flexure features and extending rearward therefrom.

An elastic insert for receiving and securing an optical fiber within a passage of a housing, such as a ferrule of an fiber optic connector, when compacted therein by a plunger, the insert having deformable relief regions that are constructed to deform upon compaction so that the optical fiber is securely held by the insert, while controlling the forces exerted outwardly by the insert against the housing along the passage and a fiber optic connector for use with the insert.

A scribe-and-break tool for fracturing the free end of an optical fiber that is especially suitable for hand-holdable configurations and field use which has an elongate body with a plunger that is interrelated to a blade for scribing the free end of an optical fiber retained in tension within a depressible head that extends outward from the body and is depressible inward to bring the free end of the optical fiber into contact with the blade, thereby scribing the free end of the fiber causing the free end to break off.

A strain relief (9) for right angle coupling of a fiber optic cable (2) with a connector (1) comprises, a generally tubular length of flexible material provided with a cylindrical axial bore (18) sized for receiving the fiber optic cable (2), and formed with narrow openings (24), an imposing tongue (27) in each of the openings (24) and a complementary groove (29) across the opening (26), whereby upon bending of the tubular length, tongues (27) lodge in the grooves (29).

A coaxial jack connector adapted to electrically connect with a coaxial plug connector and to be electrically connected to conductive members of a substrate member comprises a metal tubular member in the form of an outer contact member and includes contact elements at an inner end which extend substantially parallel with respect to a longitudinal axis of the tubular member for electrical connection with respective conductive members of a substrate member. A dielectric member is disposed along the tubular member and has a bore extending therethrough. A projection on the tubular member and a recess in the dielectric member secure the dielectric member in position in the tubular member. A contact member has a first section disposed along the bore of the dielectric member and a second section extends outwardly from an inner end of the dielectric member and is substantially parallel with the contact elements but spaced therefrom for electrical connection with a conductive member of the substrate member and means are provided by the first section of the center contact member and the dielectric member securing the center contact member in the bore of the dielectric member.

A coaxial connector comprises a dielectric spacer captured in an inner shell. A forward part of the inner shell is secured within a tubular section of a spring contact member with leaf spring contact members having contact sections extending axially along and spaced from a forward part of the dielectric spacer and bent back sections extending along the contact sections. An outer shell has a rear section crimpably secured onto the tubular section of the spring contact member and a forward section extending along the leaf spring contact members with the forward end being rolled in to serve as an entrance to the connector. A center contact is crimpable onto a center conductor of a stripped end of a coaxial cable, the crimped center contact is inserted into the dielectric spacer, and an outer conductor of the coaxial cable is crimped onto the inner shell.
