In a method and system for populating multi-segment layouts with related multimodal medical images, a relationship is determined between subsets of the multimodal medical images. The relationship is used to determine selected subsets initially selected for display in respective segments of a segmented display. Appropriate images relating to selected subsets are used to populate the remaining display segments.

In a method and apparatus for identifying regions of interest in medical images of a subject, in particular images captured by a medical imaging apparatus, such as a PET scanner, a list of voxels of the image is obtained, and sorted according to a first variable. A user-selection of an initial voxel in the image is then registered, and at least one voxel or group of voxels from the sorted list is selected as a region of interest, according to a property of the at least one voxel or group in relation to the user-selected initial voxel. The image may be pre-processed to generate the sorted list of voxels, following which the user selection of the initial voxel is registered.

In a method or apparatus for generating, from medical image data of a subject from a functional imaging modality, a modified intensity projection image for display. An intensity projection image data set is obtained from the image data. A segmentation for the image data is obtained. Based on information from the segmentation, a modified display property is calculated for at least one voxel of the intensity projection image data set.

A method is described for acquiring and analysing the data produced by Positron Emission Tomography (PET), which method provides for an accurate estimation of vascular compartment volume, V. An MRI scan and the PET scan is performed simultaneously and the results of the former is used to derive a value for V. The value so derived is then used in pharmacokinetic modelling along with the results of the functional scan.
