Systems, computer-implemented methods and/or computer program products that facilitate selecting components for aviation engines. In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method comprises: calculating, by a system operatively coupled to a processor, standard deviation between components for aviation engines based on a statistical distribution of measured manufacturing characteristics; selecting, by the system, a subset of components based on the calculated standard deviation; and analyzing, by the system, the subset of components at respective standard deviation to determine a standard deviation and period of time for trading that maximizes durability performance.

Facilitating introducing known amounts of variation into sets of kitted components

A gas turbine engine includes a combustion section space between a compressor section in a turbine section. The combustion section defines a combustion chamber and includes a combustor member defining an opening to the combustion chamber. A mounting assembly extends around or is positioned adjacent to the opening defined by the combustor member. In igniter extends through a ferrule of the mounting assembly and includes a distal end positioned proximate the opening in the combustor member. The igniter defines a plurality of channels each channel extending between a first end and a second end. The first end is positioned away from the distal end of the igniter relative to the second end, and the second end is a terminal end spaced from the distal end of the igniter.

Igniter for a gas turbine engine

A windage shield system is provided. The system includes an annular cavity having an inlet end and an outlet end. The annular cavity is configured to direct a flow of cooling fluid from the inlet end to the outlet end. The system also includes a source of a flow of cooling fluid coupled in flow communication with the annular cavity. The annular cavity is bounded by a stationary component and a rotating component, and the rotating component introduces heat into the annular cavity by windage effects. The system also includes a cooling channel coupled in flow communication with the outlet end, and a first windage shield extending from the outlet end towards the inlet end within the annular cavity.

Windage shield system and method of suppressing resonant acoustic noise

A compressor for a gas turbine engine includes a stator and a rotor. The stator includes first and second stator vanes attached to first and second vane platforms, respectively. The rotor includes a plurality of rotor blades that rotate with respect to the stator. An inner stator casing supports the first and second vane platforms and encloses the stator and the rotor. An outer stator casing encloses the inner stator casing, and a bleed cavity is disposed therebetween. At least one diffuser is disposed between the first vane platform and the second vane platform, and is configured to allow air communication between the inner stator casing and the bleed cavity. An exit opening of the diffuser is disposed within the bleed cavity at a location separate from the inner stator casing and the outer stator casing.

Systems and methods for a compressor diffusion slot

A clearance control apparatus for a gas turbine engine including an annular turbine case having opposed inner and outer surfaces; an annular manifold surrounding a portion of the turbine case, the manifold including: an inlet port in fluid communication with the manifold and the outer surface of the turbine case, and an exit port; and a bypass pipe having an upstream end coupled to the exit port, a downstream end coupled to a low-pressure sink, and a valve disposed between upstream and downstream ends, the valve selectively moveable between a first position which blocks flow between the upstream and downstream ends, and a second position which permits flow between the upstream and downstream ends.

Suction-based active clearance control system

Louver systems for gas turbine bleed air systems are disclosed. An example louver system may include a bleed system discharge opening arranged to vent bleed air from a bleed flow conduit and a plurality of pivotable louvers disposed proximate the discharge opening, the pivotable louvers being pivotable between a shut position and an open position. In the shut position, individual louvers may at least partially obstruct the discharge opening. In the open position, individual louvers may at least partially control a direction of flow of the bleed air exiting the discharge opening.

Modular louver system

A turbine blade includes an airfoil terminating in a tip. The tip includes a first rib conforming with a concave pressure side of the airfoil, and a second rib conforming with a convex suction side of the airfoil. The second rib is flared outwardly from the suction side.

High bleed flow muffling systems are disclosed. Example muffling devices according to at least some aspects of the present disclosure may include a first orifice plate and a second orifice plate at least partially defining a plenum arranged to receive the flow of a compressible fluid. The first orifice plate and the second orifice plate may be arranged to produce cross-impinging flow such that flow through the orifices of the first orifice plate into the plenum is directed at the wall of the second orifice plate and such that flow through the orifices of the second orifice plate is directed at the wall of the first orifice plate. Some example embodiments may include an inlet flow restrictor disposed upstream of the first and second orifice plates.

High bleed flow muffling system

A turbine blade includes first and second tip ribs extending from a tip floor to define a tip cavity. An exit ramp bridges the ribs and rises in elevation aft from the floor.

Tip ramp turbine blade

A turbine blade includes an airfoil tip with first and second ribs extending along the opposite pressure and suction sides. The ribs extend outwardly from a tip floor and are joined together at opposite leading and trailing edges. A cascade tip baffle transversely bridges the two ribs above the tip floor forward of the maximum width of the tip to partition the tip chordally into corresponding tip pockets on opposite sides of the baffle.

A turbine blade includes an airfoil having first and second tip ribs extending along the opposite pressure and suction sides thereof. The tip ribs are spaced apart between the leading and trailing edges of the airfoil to include a trifurcate tip baffle defining a triforial tip cavity.

A system for venting a high-pressure flow stream is disclosed, the system comprising a device having a plurality of orifice plates, each orifice plate having a plurality of orifices, wherein the plurality of orifice plates are oriented relative to each other such that the pressure of the flow stream substantially drops.

High pressure drop muffling system

A turbine blade includes an airfoil tip with first and second tip ribs extending from a tip floor. The ribs extend along the opposite pressure and suction sides of the blade and are joined together at opposite leading and trailing edges. A tip baffle is nested transversely between the ribs, and conforms with the second rib to bifurcate the airfoil tip into first and second tip pockets extending along the corresponding pressure and suction sides.

A turbine blade includes an airfoil having first and second tip ribs extending along the opposite pressure and suction sides thereof. The tip ribs are spaced apart between the leading and trailing edges of the airfoil to include a tip baffle. The baffle extends chordally in counter profile with the first rib to define a first pocket, and in counter profile with the second rib to define a second pocket.

A turbine stage includes a stator nozzle having a row of vanes mounted between inner and outer bands. The inner band terminates in an ovate ledge converging aft from the vanes with radially outer and inner convex surfaces joined at a convex apex. The ovate ledge reduces aerodynamic losses at the rotary seal with a row of following turbine rotor blades.
