Aspects of the present disclosure relate to wireless communication devices and methods configured to operate with multiple communication protocols in tune-away operations. Some aspects of the present disclosure may improve the legacy tune-away operations at an access terminal. An access terminal establishes a call utilizing a first communication protocol, tunes away from the call to receive cell signaling utilizing a second communication protocol, and tunes back to the call utilizing the first communication protocol. Following the tuning back, during a first predetermined number of subframes and if the size of a reverse link (RL) packet is smaller than a first packet size and larger than a second packet size, the access terminal forces the RL packet to be a low latency (LoLat) packet.

Apparatus and method for improving data throughput of a tune-away operation in a wireless communication system

Techniques for sending page messages with quality of service (QoS) in a wireless communication system are described. In an aspect, a network entity receives incoming packets for access terminals operating in an idle state, generates page messages in response to the incoming packets, and includes QoS information in the page messages. The QoS information for each page message may indicate whether the page message is delay sensitive. A base transceiver station (BTS) receives page messages with QoS information and sends the page messages to access terminals based on the QoS information. In one design, the BTS determines whether each page message is delay sensitive based on the QoS information, sends page messages that are delay sensitive, and either sends or delays sending page messages that are delay insensitive in order to reduce the number of packets to send for the page messages.

Paging with QoS in a wireless communication system

Techniques for managing resources on a wireless device are described. In an aspect, congestion of resources on the wireless device may be detected. If any resources are deemed to be congested, then congestion of the congested resources may be relieved by controlling utilization of the congested resources by at least one client. In one design, flow control may be performed for at least one data flow to relieve congestion of the congested resources. A pattern indicative of when to send messages enabling data transmission and when to send messages disabling data transmission may be selected. Messages may then be sent in accordance with the pattern to control transmission of data for the at least one data flow. Another pattern with a higher ON fraction or a lower ON fraction may be selected based on usage of the congested resources.

Systems and techniques for gain control include amplifying a signal with an amplifier having a gain represented by one of a plurality of gain curves depending on a value of a parameter, the signal being amplified at a first one of the parameter values, and controlling the gain of the amplified signal from a predetermined gain curve relating to the gain curve of the amplifier for a second one of the parameter values by adjusting a gain control signal corresponding to a point on the predetermined gain curve as a function of the first one of the parameter values, and applying the adjusted gain control signal to the amplifier. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract which will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure.
