An engine thrust rating process and system for controlling engine thrust during flight of an aircraft and/or to support an airplane development program (including design, validation testing, and production of airplane systems, airplane dispatch and operation tools). The thrust rating process uses thrust ratios derived from thrust expressed in power rather than engine rotor speed (N1). In one or more examples, the thrust rating architecture is based on 'Max Rated Thrust' tables and the power setting parameter 'PSP' being calculated at the end of the process instead of at the beginning of the process (unlike conventional procedures), thereby enabling the system software development early as needed to support the airplane development phase. This concept also yields improvements such as simplified control logic, optimized engine performance and engine life.

Engine thrust rating architecture and processes

Disclosed herein are apparatus, assemblies, and methods for mitigating thermal bow in the rotor of an engine at start-up. One apparatus includes a control module that facilitates operating the rotor prior to starting the engine and an acceleration module that facilitates accelerating the rotor to at least a threshold speed prior to starting the engine. An assembly includes a start-up device coupleable to the rotor and configured to start the rotor and a start-up module coupled to the start-up device in which the start-up device and the start-up module are configured to coordinate operations to accelerate the rotor to at least a threshold speed prior to starting the aircraft engine. One method includes transmitting a control signal to control the rotor prior to starting the engine and commanding the start-up device to accelerate the rotor to at least a threshold speed prior to starting the engine.

Apparatus, assemblies, and methods for mitigating thermal bow in the rotor of an engine at start-up

Several embodiments of a localized audibility sound system are disclosed. In an embodiment designed for persons playing a video game, configurations are disclosed which limit propagation of low-frequency sound to nearby areas or rooms, both for group and single-person play. Other embodiments are disclosed for use in trade shows and the like, which limit propagation sound to nearby booths and areas, while providing a rich audio experience for persons in a defined area. Embodiments for use in conference-calling are disclosed which facilitate selective telephonic transmission or recording of sounds spoken by persons around a conference table, while attenuating telephonic transmission or recording of other sounds created in the conference room such as typing on computer keyboards.

Localized audibility sound system

Systems and methods for displaying N1 speed on a flight deck display in a manner that provides increased resolution at the upper end of the operating range. This is accomplished by a variable scale(s) which improves the functionality of the N1 gauge (serving as an indication of thrust) in the desired region. Also, there is visual indication to provide pilots the ability to discern if the current thrust is within a specific tolerance to the desired value within the takeoff region. This additional indication is based on color changes associated with the N1 display structure.

Aircraft engine fan speed display improvements for enhanced monitoring and thrust setting ability

Methods and apparatus to increase a payload capacity of an aircraft are disclosed herein. An example method includes receiving a selection via a control display unit to employ a fluid delivery system during takeoff of an aircraft. The fluid delivery system includes a tank disposed on the aircraft. The example method also includes automatically controlling, via a fluid management system including a processor, a flow of the water from the tank during takeoff in response to the selection. The water is to cool an engine heat source of the aircraft.

Methods and apparatus to increase a payload capacity of an aircraft

Devices and methods for inserting bone cement into a patient during a surgical procedure. The methods may include inserting a tip of a nozzle at the desired location in the patient, such as an opening formed in a bone. An enlarged radial member may be positioned against the bone and covers the opening. Cement is moved through the nozzle and into the opening. The member may prevent escape of the cement from the opening. The nozzle may also be configured to facilitate insertion of the cement at the desired location within the patient.

Surgical syringe devices and methods of use

A lighted razor that directs light in one or more different directions. The directed light enables a user to shave when in dark environments, and to adjust the amount of light that emanates from the razor. The lighted razor generally includes a body with a blade for shaving. A light is attached to the body, and may be powered and controlled by mechanisms in the body. A sleeve is adjustably positioned over the light to adjust an amount of light emanating from the razor.

Lighted razor

A system for detecting and correcting a thrust control malfunction in an aircraft engine. The system includes an electronic engine control (EEC) unit that includes a first processing subsystem and a second processing subsystem, and a thrust control malfunction accommodation (TCMA) circuit included in the first processing subsystem and the second processing subsystem. Additionally, the system includes a TCMA software package executed by the first processing subsystem and the second processing subsystem, thereby providing redundant execution of the TCMA software package.

A stringed instrument with a compliantly suspended sound board allows for deeper, richer sound in s smaller sized instrument. The compliant suspension of the sound board allows for greater acoustic excursions at the edges of the sound board. The resonance set up between the compliance of the sound suspension and the mass of the sound board may be placed below and near the Helmholtz resonance of the instrument to effectively create a broader, lower-frequency Helmholtz resonance than would typically be achievable in instruments of similar size.

An acoustic imaging sound apparatus includes an acoustically reflective dome for reflecting and focusing stereophonic sound waves from stereo speakers directed into the interior of the dome. The stereophonic sound waves are focused by the dome to a listening area to provide a listener with pure stereophonic sound.
