A system and method for maintaining provisioned configuration for an endpoint in a packet switched communications network are disclosed, the communications network utilizing a signalling protocol between the endpoint and at least one gatekeeper. The gatekeeper receives a request from the endpoint, determines the addresses of an assigned gatekeeper and at least one alternate gatekeeper, and transmits the addresses to the endpoint within the signalling protocol. The endpoint sends a message to its assigned gatekeeper, and if the assigned gatekeeper is responsive, the endpoint receives an indication confirming that the Gatekeeper is available. If the assigned gatekeeper is unresponsive, the endpoint registers with an alternate gatekeeper, but periodically sends a polling status request to its assigned gatekeeper, so that when the assigned gatekeeper becomes responsive, the endpoint may then register with its assigned gatekeeper.

System and method for maintaining a provisioned configuration for an endpoint in a communications network

According to one embodiment of the invention, a method includes receiving a first setup message transmitted by a first endpoint, the first setup message an attempt by the first endpoint to setup a call with a second endpoint, the setup message sent by the first endpoint to an IP address of a call manager after the first endpoint registered with a gatekeeper, the IP address of the call manager supplied to the first endpoint by the gatekeeper in response to a request by the first endpoint to the gatekeeper for an IP address of the second endpoint. The method further includes attempting to setup the call between the first and second endpoints by transmitting a second setup message to the second endpoint.

Method and system for call processing

According to one embodiment of the invention, a method of processing calls includes configuring a gatekeeper to forward all dialed phone numbers to a call manager. The method also includes receiving a signal at the gatekeeper from a first endpoint requesting an IP address of a second endpoint corresponding to a particular dialed phone number. In response, the gatekeeper transmits to the first endpoint an IP address of the call manager rather than the IP address of the second endpoint. The call manager is operable to set up a call between the first and second endpoints wherein call media associated with the call does not travel through the call manager.

Systems and methods perform analysis of ICMP packets received at a network device port to determine if the ICMP packet is valid and thus should be forwarded. One aspect of the systems and methods includes configuring a port to be a trusted port in which any type of ICMP message may be considered valid. For untrusted ports, the system analyzes the ICMP packet to determine if the packet is one that should be received on an untrusted port. A further aspect of the systems and methods includes analyzing the ICMP packet data to determine if packet addresses have been spoofed or altered.
