Single-use integral chromatography unit having an inlet and an outlet, and comprising one or more plates or pairs of filter plates interposable between a pair of end plates. In certain embodiments, each of the filter plates comprises a polymeric framework with one or more membranes supported therein. The filter plates and end plates may be assembled to form a substantially fixed, substantially water-tight, integral stack. Fluid entering the unit through a common inlet passes the membrane or membranes of each filter plate substantially contemporaneously prior to exiting the unit through a common outlet (cf, 'parallel' flow). The assembly is a modular design, as multiple pairs of plates can be stacked in a suitable holder to form a single chromatography unit.

The need for vents is eliminated, as is an intermediate drain filter. The device also can be dried in series. The network is provided with one or more inputs for introducing liquid raw material into the fluid process stream, and one or more output ports for discharging fluid out of the fluid process stream. Methods and devices used for redundant sterile filtration

Fluid pathways are provided so that filtration of all incoming feed is assured prior to passing from the cartridge as filtrate. The filtration cartridge can be provided with a single outlet ().

Method of reducing performance variability of membrane scaling devices. Scaling device performance uncertainty is reduced, thereby reducing the scaling safety factor, by specifying a narrow range or subset of the set of all qualified manufactured membranes for installation into scaling devices. In certain embodiments, the scalability factor is reduced by determining where within the performance distribution a particular membrane lies, and adjusting the scaling factor accordingly.

Method for improved scaling of filters

A filtration apparatus is provided comprising a housing having an inlet and an outlet and a plurality of spirally wound filtration cartridges. The filtration cartridges include two filter layers, a feed spacer layer and a permeate spacer layer. Seals are provided to prevent admixtures of feed and permeate and to permit recovery of permeate.

Multifiltration cartridge filtration apparatus

The present invention relates to a device having two or more separate filtration layers that can be independently tested for integrity yet which allow for serial filtration through the two or more layers to obtain the desired characteristics such as retention. The device is made of two or more filtration areas, each containing one filter layer. Each area has one filtration layer and a first endcap bonded to a first end of the filter and a second endcap bonded to a second end of the filter. The areas are arranged concentrically around each other such that the first area is inward of the second area which is inward of a third area and the like. Each area is formed separately and integrity tested separately before final assembly. The first area is slid into the inside of the second area and then the two endcaps are either bonded to each, bonded to a third overall endcap or overmolded by a third endcap.

Integrity testable multilayered filter device

The present invention comprises a filter housing having two or more layers of filters. Each layer is preferably spaced apart from each other so as to provide a chamber or gap between them. A port or vent is located within the chamber or gap between the two layers to provide an intermediate path for gas or liquid to flow through one layer of filter or membrane and out the vent or port for integrity testing.
