Records are obtained from various sources, including public records, and are then augmented and grouped. At least one augment key is applied to each of the records resulting in an augment key value for each record. The records are augmented based on the key value. Augmenting the records includes combining the fields of the common records into a single record and then removing the duplicate records. The augmented records are then grouped according to household. At least one household grouping key is applied to each of the augmented records resulting in a household grouping key value for each record. The records having the same household grouping key value are displayed as a household grouping.

Household grouping based on public records

A method and system are provided for performing database queries with geographic inputs that are converted to a direct marketing area prior to performing the query. Direct marketing areas define geographic locations as discrete areas of interest that may be more useful than city limits or a specific geographic location (e.g., latitude/longitude). Direct marketing areas are more useful geographic designations for purposes of advertising and marketing. A geographic input, such as a city and state, or a latitude and longitude are converted to a direct marketing area. The direct marketing area is then substituted for the entered geographic parameter (e.g., city and state or latitude and longitude), and the requested database query is performed.

Method and apparatus for converting a geographic location to a direct marketing area for a query

A method for protecting the privacy of a person's email address that is maintained in an on-line directory service (,). The directory service includes a database (,) having actual email addresses and a processing system (,) that is available for retrieving these listings from the database. The method includes the computer implemented steps of receiving from a user a request for a person's email address; determining whether or not a record is present in the database that corresponds with the user request; and if a record is present that includes a person's actual email address, then automatically displaying a selectable proxy email address (,) in lieu of the person's actual email address. The proxy email address is provided without having been requested by the person and without requiring the processing system to determine whether or not the person prefers to have a proxy email address displayed or the person's actual email address displayed. The proxy email address includes a selectable portion that enables the user to send an email message to the person without knowing that person's actual email address.

System and method for providing a proxy identifier in an on-line directory

A method and system for altering content of a record in a database over Internet is provided. The method includes receiving a request generated over the Internet by a requester that requests records in the database. Searching the records for a requested record corresponding to the request and, upon finding the requested record, displaying the requested record content and an alter record indicator. The requester generating an alter record request over the Internet by selecting the alter record indicator and providing a verification address. If the alter record request contains the verification address, displaying a confirmation message to the requester. The confirmation message comprising a reply address and a reference code. The requester sending an alter record message containing the reference code to the reply address. After receipt of the alter record message at the reply address, determining whether the alter record message contains the reference code. If the alter record message contains the reference code, updating the requested record according to the alter record message.

On-line directory service through the internet

An emulation module (110) includes a pre-fetch queue (116) having an adjustable size (126) to eliminate any dependence of virus decryption routines on the size of the pre-fetch queue (116) when emulating executable files to test for the presence of virus infections. An executable file is tested by setting (210, 258) the size of the emulator's pre-fetch queue (116) and emulating (220) the file under the guidance of an emulation control module (130). Emulated instructions are monitored and a flag is set (230) when any instructions are modified (224) after being copied to the pre-fetch queue and subsequently executed (228). Emulation continues until the emulation control module (130) indicates (230) that the file should be scanned for virus signatures. If no virus signatures are detected (234) and the flag is set (244), the size of the pre-fetch queue is reduced (258) and the process is repeated. An executable file is declared virus-free (250) if the file is emulated (220) without setting the flag (230) and no virus signatures are detected (234). The executable file is declared virus-infected (240) when virus signatures are detected (234), independent of whether the flag is set (230). For Intel processors, pre-fetch queue sizes of 32, 16, 8, and zero bytes may be emulated.
