A distributed low voltage power system can include a power distribution module (PDM) that distributes a low voltage signal through at least one output channel. The system can also include at least one electrical device coupled to the at least one output channel of the PDM, where the at least one electrical device operates using the low voltage signal. The system can further include an emergency battery pack (EBP) coupled to the at least one output channel of the PDM and to the at least one electrical device, where the EBP comprises at least one battery cell. The EBP can use the low voltage signal to charge the at least one battery cell, and where the EBP releases emergency low voltage signal to the at least one electrical device when the PDM stops distributing the low voltage signal.

Emergency battery packs for low voltage systems

An electrical system can include a power supply that provides primary power, and a light fixture having at least one light source, where the light fixture is coupled to the power supply, where the at least one light source illuminates when the light fixture receives the primary power. The electrical system can further include an energy storage unit having at least one energy storage device that charges using the primary power. The electrical system can also include a controller that determines an initial charging period during which the at least one energy storage device is charged using a constant supply of the primary power, where the controller changes the constant supply of the primary power to a trickle charge of the primary power at the end of the initial charging period to maintain a minimum charge level of the at least one energy storage device.

Constant power output from emergency battery packs

An electrical circuit can include a power supply that provides primary power, and an electrical load coupled to the power supply. The electrical circuit can also include an energy storage unit coupled to the power supply and the electrical load. The energy storage unit can include at least one energy storage device that stores reserve power using the primary power, and a first switch disposed between the power supply and the at least one energy storage device. The energy storage unit can also include a controller that operates the first switch from a closed position to an open position after a first amount of time. The at least one energy storage device can receive the primary power when the first switch is in the closed position. The at least one energy storage device can fail to receive the primary power when the first switch is in the open position.

Methods and systems for charging a backup battery pack

A pushbutton and an electrical switch can be linked to one another so that movement of the pushbutton, for example by a user depressing the pushbutton, can control the switch. The switch can be in a closed position prior to being depressed and in an open position afterwards, or vice versa. A photodetector can be located on the switch side of the pushbutton. The pushbutton can be formed of a material that transmits light so that light can pass through the pushbutton for receipt by the photodetector. The pushbutton can additionally or alternatively be formed with an opening that is sized to receive an object inserted by a user. Insertion of the object can manipulate a second electrical switch, which may control flow of electricity from a battery, for example.

Control system

Systems and methods for providing a combination power supply module containing the main drive electronics and backup drive electronics along with a backup power supply for a light emitting diode (LED) based luminaire are described herein. The power supply module may include a main LED driver that is electrically connected to a main power supply through active power factor correction circuitry and is also electrically connected to an LED or array of LEDs. The power supply module further includes power management circuitry electrically connected to a backup power supply and an emergency LED driver, where the power management circuitry discharges the backup power supply to supply power to the emergency LED driver for powering at least a subset of the LEDs when power is no longer being supplied to the main LED driver. The main LED driver and the emergency LED driver are contained in the same module housing.

Systems, methods, and devices for providing drive electronics with a backup power supply for an LED luminaire

An emergency ballast for a fluorescent lamp includes a rechargeable battery. The emergency ballast also includes a circuit for receiving an electrical voltage and providing a recommended charging voltage to the battery. The electrical voltage is one of two amplitudes, and the circuit provides a charge to the battery without regard to the amplitude of the electrical voltage. The first amplitude of the electrical voltage can be 120 volts, and the second amplitude can be 277 volts. The emergency ballast includes a capacitor electrically coupled to the circuit that provides an additional voltage to the rechargeable battery when the electrical current is 120 volts. The emergency ballast also includes a switch for electrically decoupling the capacitor from the circuit when the electrical current is 277 volts.
