A blocker door assembly for use in a gas turbine includes a panel, a core integrally formed with the panel, and a plurality of mounting structures extending from at least one of the panel and the core. The plurality of mounting structures are integrally formed with the core and the panel such that the panel, the core, and the mounting structures are co-molded from a thermoplastic material.

A method of applying an adhesive to a non-planar surface. The method includes providing a segmented film adhesive. The segmented film adhesive comprises: (i) a liner; and (ii) an adhesive layer on the liner, the adhesive layer comprising a plurality of contiguous, discrete adhesive segments. The segmented film adhesive is positioned on a non-planar surface of a first adherend so that a first portion of the discrete adhesive segments are in contact with the non-planar surface and a second portion of the discrete adhesive segments are not in contact with the non-planar surface. The liner is removed from the non-planar surface, wherein only the first portion of the discrete adhesive segments remain on the non-planar surface of the first adherend.

A blocker door assembly for use in a gas turbine engine includes a facesheet including a plurality of openings to facilitate noise attenuation and a body portion coupled to the facesheet. The body portion includes a backsheet integrally formed with a honeycomb core, wherein the body portion is molded from a thermoplastic material.

The surface of a tooling insert is coated with a polymer layer having a low surface energy in order to cover surface irregularities and thereby provide a smooth surface against which a composite part may be compression molded.

A compression molding assembly for molding a honeycomb core, including a plurality of cells defined by a plurality of walls, of a blocker door is provided. The compression molding assembly includes a ram plate comprising a plurality of openings defined therethrough and a plurality of core inserts coupled to the ram plate such that the plurality of core inserts are configured to form the honeycomb core of the blocker door. Each core insert is removably coupled with a respective opening of the plurality of openings such that each core insert is configured to form a respective cell of the plurality of cells.

A fuel tank system comprising a fuel tank, a number of fasteners, and a number of covers. The number of fasteners has a number of ends extending into an interior of the fuel tank. The number of covers is configured to cover the number of ends of the number of fasteners. A cover in the number of covers comprises a housing configured to cover an end of a fastener in the number of ends, a deformable material associated with an interior side of the cover, and cells that are present within the deformable material. The deformable material is configured to contain energy within the cover in which the energy is caused by an electromagnetic event.

A composite structure comprising a matrix and a reinforcement. The matrix comprises a substantially nonconductive material. The reinforcement comprises a conductive material. The reinforcement is located within the matrix to form a composite layer. A method and apparatus for insulating a fluid line in a container configured to contain a fluid. The apparatus comprises a container, a fluid line in the container, and a tube. The container is configured to contain a fluid. The tube is placed around the fluid line in the container to form a channel around a first portion of the fluid line. The tube is configured to contain the fluid from the container in the channel and to prevent a first flow of the fluid between the container and the channel except through a number of ends of the tube. The tube is further configured to reduce a second flow of the fluid within the channel such that the fluid in the channel insulates the fluid line.

A system for electrostatically cleaning surfaces includes an electrostatically chargeable brush, having conductive polymer bristles, moveably disposed adjacent to a solid surface to be cleaned. The system also includes an actuator, configured to linearly move a solid element toward and through sliding contact along the solid surface, the brush being positioned to contact at least one of the solid surface and the solid element prior to the sliding contact, to electrostatically remove dust and the like therefrom.

A method and apparatus for conducting an electrical current between a first transport member and a second transport member. In one illustrative embodiment, a coupling assembly comprises a first fitting associated with a first end of a first transport member, a second fitting associated with a second end of a second transport member, and a seal. The seal is configured for placement around the first fitting and the second fitting when the first end of the first transport member is positioned relative to the second end of the second transport member. The seal is further configured to seal an interface between the first transport member and the second transport member. The seal is comprised of a material configured such that the seal has a level of conductivity within a selected range and such that a conductive pathway is formed between the first transport member and the second transport member.
